Nostalrius goes one step forward

Nostalrius official announcements

I won't say too much, but more than anything, I just want to say a huge thank you to the devs. Ever since launch day I've been loving every minute of this server.

I've wanted a separate PvE server for a while too -- the announcement was truly awesome. However, reading through the replies in the announcement thread did make me think it was community-splitting, and would kill the server, etc... Reading through this thread was refreshing. So many people are thankful for the awesome work being done by the devs, and now I'm truly excited for the PvE server. At first I thought so many people were against it that it would be dead before it began.

I honestly can't wait. Thank you for everything devs, and thank you, the awesome community, for making this place what it is.

See you in the gank-free world! <3

I would say that it's a little strange that you aren't aware of it, but I don't think it's that strange any more. I have a feeling that Nos isn't aware of this either.

If you are planning on doing a competitive race of being the first to reach level 60 you will not be stopped by a queue and instead log in as quickly as possible. no clue what you're talking about here

Yes, that is very clear by your response. I was responding to another post, so that would need to be included to put it into context.

But let's just take the basic premise of logging in quickly to by-pass the queue. I personally have never seen where the ability to log in quickly would prevent a player from being put in the queue when a server has reached its cap. Unless there is some program that is so speedy with logging in that it by-passes the queue? :o

I'm totally fine with waiting for the server - no matter how long it will take.

However, I think the 2.5k cap is VERY disappointing. Admins, please reconsider that decision!

I would have understood the implementation of a cap of 7k, or 6k, or even 5k, just to guarantee server stability. But 2.5k seems extremely low compared to the PvP server. I leveled one character to 60 and two more characters to 50+ on PvP, and it was fun! Only very few places were overcrowded (e.g. Duskwood Cemetary). And we always had lots of players to form dungeon groups or play some BGs. That made Nostalrius PvP very special.

Just my opinion, but I would strongly suggest a cap between 5k and 6k players! As long as you don't hit your hardware or bandwith limits.

Cheers and thanks for your effort @devs & admins!!

I'm sure there is but it probably would be an category E rulebreak to use such a program?

How many can afford to sit in an 8 or 10 hour queue? This will not be a 1 hour queue.

Retail has already demonstrated that many times.

I hope that is not the case. An 8 hour queue would cause so many players to not even bother. I fear those just looking for the initial rush of a server opening will be the first to log in, leaving many potential long term players sitting on the sidelines.

There were 1700 online for the server test. Assumedly we'd have a lot more on a release version, but what might we do, double that? I don't see Nostalrius suddenly getting 6K players for a PvE server. The announcement for the PvE test realm didn't do a very good job of canvassing but I don't see us having a queue much over 1000 and when a queue is in place on PvP it goes real fast. If we could hit 3500 active that would be an unqualified success and certain to demand some additional attention from devs. They are basing the cap and interest off hard numbers captured during the realm test. I don't think they are just blithely setting an arbitrary cap with no intentions to massage the number if it proves detrimental.

The way some people talk it seems like they think 2500 is the permanent forever cap number.

We can't know for sure that the queues are going to be long or in fact will be there at all. I think it is a good bet that there will be somewhat long queues for the first week or so, but by the time a couple of weeks have passed the queue times will have gone down, either naturally as people leave or by the Nost team dealing with the issue in some way.
If you aren't racing for 60, then waiting a couple of weeks wont hurt that much and if you are racing for 60, then you will likely be online for long periods of time, meaning fewer logins and thus less time spent in queues.

Don't get me wrong, I share your fear of extremely long queues, but I just think we might want to give the Nost team the benefit of the doubt. Remember that other thread where people ran amok because they hadn't made any announcements, on Thursday then Friday and then Saturday... Suddenly and on schedule the announcement showed up on Sunday.

A 2.5k cap is just asking for problems. People wont log out and just sit afk for hours using a drinking bird on the space bar making the queue longer. Or people will use programs to not have the server log them off then get banned for using that program. The amount of work the staff will have to do to keep people trying to get around the queue in check is alone worth a higher cap.
