Pretty much what Sethzer said. Everyone's client software (The WoW installed on your computer) is patch 1.12.1, but the server software (The WoW that Nostalrius hosts) has been modified to emulate content seen in patch 1.4, 1.5, and the upcoming 1.6. This allows players to experience a more or less progressive content release similar to Blizzard's releases without having to download and patch their client software every time a change is made.

The server test was announced in the forums and in server chat, but it was not very prominent. The hype for the final server will be much larger, and I expect a good chunk of the PvP server population to join - many people enjoy a fresh start. I'm pretty sure you'll have to double that number. Rather triple that.

elandriel wrote:The announcement for the PvE test realm didn't do a very good job of canvassing but I don't see us having a queue much over 1000 and when a queue is in place on PvP it goes real fast.

You do realize that those queues went real fast, because they appeared only after server crashes? A real queue will be a completely different thing and it'll take much longer.

You think 2500 cap is too low? How many people do you expect to play regularly on NosPvE? Even if the stress test event was widely advertised, many players couldn't join due to their RL obbligations. The ones that could, did organize RL schedules so to be able to partecipate to the test event. How often could you do that? Every day of the week? just during the weekends? only when on vacation? And for how long? 2 hours a day? 6? And what about the players from the USA? at 2 AM when you are about to log off and go to bed, they just finished their dinner and are (maybe) about to log on. And those from LA are stil @work..but you and a big chunk of EU players are already catching ZZ's.
There will be peaks and downs like on all servers. On (hopefully) rare occasions the cap will be enforced, but most of the time it won't be needed at all. Pray the gods that I'm wrong.

Have to agree with most of this. The server houses players from a ton of different timezones, not all NA or EU like launch servers with this cap had. It's also a private server so less people will be interested over time, I'm sure many will come just to poke around and realize Vanilla WoW isn't for them. The time this would be worst is at launch while doing initial leveling, and I would rather be relegated to a queue than have 500+ people fighting for the same 20 boars in one area.

I'd be shocked if that cap wasn't raised a month or so into the life of the server, when leveling starts to be a range instead of everyone being under lvl10. Does anyone really think the devs won't respond if the queue is hurting raiders trying to log in? It's just a mechanism to make leveling tolerable.

I don't like the sound of a 2500 player cap but who knows might be ok
