I'm one of those people who for years avoided reliving the vanilla experience because it wasn't worth being ganked 24/7, so this is absolutely up my alley. I can't wait! Also, I'm one of those people who didn't make it in time for the server tally to 'voice my interest'.
After reading the whole thread (the whole thread), I'm not too worried about a release date; I'll be here to play either way, seeing as how I've been waiting eight years as it is. As far as the server cap is concerned, I'm leaning towards the 'for' side. On the current Nostralius server, even to this day, it's still a bit of a pain to quest in the early areas, so can you imagine trying to start on a fresh server with an unchecked blitzkrieg of level 1s? The point has also been made that as more and more people hit 60, a server cap would ensure that endgame questing/farming areas aren't unreasonably swamped.
The best point against caps that I've heard so far is Crowley's, which is that Blizzard's queues were mitigated by the sheer number of servers available. People that logged in and saw unreasonably long queues would go play on other servers instead, making the queue seem quicker for those willing to wait. Today, however, this server will be (more or less) the only game in town, enticing more people to wait and queues to take longer. I think the queues would be longer than a lot of people here estimate.
I have a question, though: will there be a system in place to handle people who get disconnected? There should be; I would hate to be forced into a long queue because some coding error caused me to DC or CTD. The easiest solution would be to give people, say, a 90-second window to log back in before placing their account into the queue. The server could even yield the newly vacant spot to another player in queue, letting the DCed player temporarily bypass the cap.
