I'm one of those people who for years avoided reliving the vanilla experience because it wasn't worth being ganked 24/7, so this is absolutely up my alley. I can't wait! Also, I'm one of those people who didn't make it in time for the server tally to 'voice my interest'.

After reading the whole thread (the whole thread), I'm not too worried about a release date; I'll be here to play either way, seeing as how I've been waiting eight years as it is. As far as the server cap is concerned, I'm leaning towards the 'for' side. On the current Nostralius server, even to this day, it's still a bit of a pain to quest in the early areas, so can you imagine trying to start on a fresh server with an unchecked blitzkrieg of level 1s? The point has also been made that as more and more people hit 60, a server cap would ensure that endgame questing/farming areas aren't unreasonably swamped.

The best point against caps that I've heard so far is Crowley's, which is that Blizzard's queues were mitigated by the sheer number of servers available. People that logged in and saw unreasonably long queues would go play on other servers instead, making the queue seem quicker for those willing to wait. Today, however, this server will be (more or less) the only game in town, enticing more people to wait and queues to take longer. I think the queues would be longer than a lot of people here estimate.

I have a question, though: will there be a system in place to handle people who get disconnected? There should be; I would hate to be forced into a long queue because some coding error caused me to DC or CTD. The easiest solution would be to give people, say, a 90-second window to log back in before placing their account into the queue. The server could even yield the newly vacant spot to another player in queue, letting the DCed player temporarily bypass the cap.

I really like the idea with bypassing the cap. However, it would be excessively dangerous in case of a server-wide crash. I mean, if 2500 people are kicked out, and are allowed to immediately go back in, along with the next 2500 people in line, we suddenly have 5000 people online with the person who is #1 in queue having to wait for a month and a half for the numbers to drop down again - and if crashes are frequent, we'll end up having practically no cap at all, since another 2500 can just get in when the next crash happens!

But perhaps I'm seeing ghosts and said scenario is easily dealt with? :D

It's a good point! I mean, in the case of a server-wide crash, a restart would probably be in place anyways and the queue would be abandoned, giving everyone a fresh chance to elbow in first.

In the case of a large lagspike that kicks a significant percentage of players, there could be a soft cap and a hard cap (say, 2500 and 2750, or 100% and 110% capacity). A certain number of DCed players could squeeze back in, and the rest get put at the front of the queue. Something similar to this must have been around for Blizzard servers, as sometimes your position in queue would jump upwards, implying people joined the queue in front of you.

Of course, this is all just theorycrafting at this point. I just hope there's a system to handle DCs and CTDs, because while I'm willing to wait in a rather large queue to get on, I'm much less willing to wait twice in a row, on account of connection instability.

I wouldn't worry too much about the queues. In the end we still have the main PVP server, without queues.
Alot will give up on the waiting time, if it's too much and just go back there.
I'm sure it will even itself out quickly.

I discovered this server too late. BWL is coming. But I'm only 23 lvl (/played 22Hrs) and wiping in the Stranglethorn Mountains. A LOT OF GANK. Can't do quests at all. It's OK when Blizzard's Vanilla starts, but now it's very annoying, because one and only reason to play this server is raiding. But rarely world pvp is good for me too (only 60). It's hard to chose which server play PVE or PVP. What do you think, guys? How much gank will be till 60? its realy breaks my leveling.

Sounds like being ganked is getting on your nerves. Which is understandable. So I'd recommend taking a break and waiting for the new PvE server.

Players who set foot in STV are either level 60 or want to be ganked.

There are options you know.
