This is so unprofessional. Let the transferred characters stay!
You're the beginning and the end of the community. Your own reputation after this announcement is one thing, but you're dragging Elysium with you.
You're asking the Nostalrius community, whatever that is now, to sacrifice their characters because... recent events didn't hit your "main objectives"? Do you understand how absurd that is? Especially when one of those objectives is to "achieve official Blizzard Legacy servers", which you have to admit have an incredibly low chance of actually happen. - Ever.
Your second main objective is to "help as much as we can to unify the WoW community together", which is plain bullshit. Both regarding the fact that you guys are (was) the biggest engine for Legacy, and due to the message you're delivering with this announcement.
Exactly what has changed in the situation now, and before the shutdown of Nost, apart from that the flow of control is split between you and Elysium? I suggest you guys shed some light on your true agenda, or if Blizzard is pulling any strings again, because you're actions and intentions aren't speaking the same.
"Thus, we are asking you a tremendous sacrifice." Well, you ask too much, and I can't and won't help you. My contribution is in the game when I play, the fact that I'm playing what you essentially helped create, and the social passion I bring to play.
How would one play its Nostalrius characters if they are removed from Elysium? It's not like you have an active server, and with your resulting credibility after this, not to mention your conflict of interest with your main objectives.
One thing is saying: "Listen, we don't want to contribute to Elysium anymore, effective immediately." Another is asking to also remove the data. In that action, you're being very (sorry to say) egoistic with respect to your own agenda, and not respecting the thousands of real, living persons that are actually enjoying and being relient on the content you have supplied.
I'll tell you this, if you make Elysium delete the characters I transferred from Nostalrius, then I will not play any more on either of Elysium's servers, or anything you might contribute to in the future. I might be illegally playing a private World of Warcraft vanilla server, but I must be able to rely on some kind of contuinuity. With the passion you had after Blizzcon, with the promises that were made, and what seemed like a good collaboration between Nost/Elysium, it seemed legitimate to me, and so I gave this new beginning a chance.
