I see mostly positive results.
Fewer people on a bit overcrowded server – less lag, lower ping on the current server. (+)
PVE players will finally get what they want – gank-free questing and exploration. (+)
PVP players who stay will continue PVPing. (+)
The only group that will lose would be the gankers. (-)
For people concerning about the population… Guys, original Blizzard’s servers had ~3k limit and everything was fine. Even if current server loses half of its population (I doubt it will happen) it will be healthy enough to support raiding and PVP (unless PVPers don’t want to raid)
Regarding the economy on the new server, I would not worry about that. Economy of every new game starts from zero and picks up over time. Do not forget all new players will start from scratch too.
I do understand that it will be tough initially to form a 10men or even 5men group on the new server.
It may take time for the population to grow and reach healthy number.
But you know I’d rather play on a server with 500-1000 people who want PVE and to run instances/ raids, than with 5000 people who want to do mostly PVP. Perhaps with the initially smaller community it will be easier to group up because people may appreciate grouping even more.
The most important thing the new server gives is a choice for new players. Let’s remember, we have different preferences – some people like PVP, some prefer PVE and RP. It’s up to me as a player to make that decision.
All above is just my personal opinion. Personally, I hope the new server is implemented soon. I can’t wait.
Only one part of the population thinks it's a bad idea - and we all know who they are. We read about them in general chat non-stop griefing the community - whether it's Alliance v Horde or Horde v Alliance.
The good news is they THEY should be happy the pve community is moving out. That way they can all grief each other and everyone should just be tickled with constant "smiles" of joy all around. Though, something tells me they will be rolling toons as well if pve ever opens.
To be fair - I had to edit in that there is an even smaller population that enjoys the concept of world defense - and the more realistic War aspect in World of WARcraft that permits pvp on a pvp server.
But here's what we who have lived on pve servers on live WoW learned long ago - you want pvp? Feel free to tear up Goldshire - folks can organize a defense - and bam - it's pvp central. But, what if you have an hour to play and have three kids or are burned out from school or what have you? No worries - you get to play as well - minus "Little-Johnny-Griefer" feeding on you for kicks.
Pve is the best thing that happened to Nostralius - or will be if they go with it.
