Nostalrius Final Days

I had a blast playing on this server, from the first day of its release , once more blizzard showed its greed and stupidity . Thank you for all the good times ,and i hope this wont stop here , and you guys will find another way to make nostalrius active in another form.

I just wanna start out by saying thanks. We all had an amazing time there and IMO it was worth it even though it shut down. You guys did amazing work and created a quality server that I had only dreamed about before.

That being said, here comes the criticism that nobody wants to acknowledge:

(IMO)This is all Nost's fault and they let us down big time. I'm not trying to talk shit on Nost but this is worth discussing for future endeavors(if there is ever such a thing like nost again). I'm not saying I know everything about running a WoW server, but it seems like they should have known this would happen. To spend all this time and effort HOPING that blizzard would not bring down the hammer was incredibly stupid. There should have been things in place to protect the server/community in the event of this happening. To my knowledge there are countless things they could have done to prevent this. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

First of all why did the server have to be in France? Second why are they not fighting this and agreeing to shut down the moment somebody threatens them? I understand they are going against a HUGE corporate interest, but why bother making Nost in the first place if they weren't willing to fight the legal issues? Did they really think this wouldn't happen? Third, announcing this so fast and releasing the source was not smart, because if there was ever a way to salvage the community on another server it is now ruined/unbalanced and there is no way to recover the economy.

tldr:
I feel like an idiot for spending my time here. Had I done even a little research on the server it would have been obvious this was inevitable. I feel let down by Nostalrius big time. I feel like the promises made by this server were not accompanied by their willingness to fight for its existence. I feel like they threw in the cards without thinking it through. I feel like even with the server shutting down it could have been handled better.

Anyways, I <3 you for providing the entertainment while it lasted. And I hope this community has the energy to make blizzard truly regret this horribly greedy decision.

So nobody is even going to acknowledge this or ask the questions that need to be asked? Nobody else is pissed about this BS which could have EASILY been predicted and quite possibly avoided. I just can't wrap my head around how stupid it is they allowed this to happen, and then how they proceeded to submit without any hint of a fight.

There is something they aren't telling us.

Read the Cease and Desist order - it does not target Nostalrius. It targets the server service provider. There is nothing they can do if they do not have hardware and network to operate the server on.

You cannot affect 3rd parties that much. If you would have a server provider as safe-point, then they would target the DNS servers, if not that, then further down the line.. etc.

Loved it while it lasted.
Excellent job guys. Most polished, most bug free I have been on.

Heres hoping that the "Polish" will all be securly backed up... Maybe a private server will pop up with the same polish feel in a juristiction that Blizzard cant reach.

Good day. My question is - would the administration move your server to another country, where would Blizzard not be able to chase You in connection with copyright?

Their Objective is larger than Simply "moving" it. I'm sure once the files are released they will integrate into another community and continue their work.

But for the meantime, there is the bigger picture. Getting a response from Blizzard and if we keep up this support that everyone is doing they will have no option but to respond, the best scenario would be to get the same treatment as Project99 did from SoE being allowed to operate under a agreement from Sony.
