Nostalrius goes one step forward

Nostalrius official announcements

I think it would be great if they both release around the same time.

It would sure help for people who got stuck in the Nos queue.

Regarding the timing, I think we will all just be treading water for the next couple of weeks. Also, I think a release on or after Oct 6 would be less buggy than a release before then. (Mercury is retrograde until Oct 6. ;) )

Definetly not but it is forcing nostalrius to pick up the pace. They had all the time in the world for it, too bad they didn't trust the community had enough interest in a pve server without doing a census test on it, which catalysted a scenario where they are suddenly in a race with a contender, which was still oblivious to nostalrius' intentions and had a pace for launch much later this year if not early next year.

Anyone going to roll on the PvE server simply because they feel they're too far behind on the PvP one?

This isn't entirely true. I did some digging, the other project has been around for two years now on Github at least, and looks like they did have some players, not enough though so they decided to revamp and relaunch. It puts both servers on a more even footing and will make the race interesting :p

Too far behind with what, raiding? Only speaking for myself here, but hell no; I did the raids 10 years ago and simply just want to enjoy the world in peace.

I also suspect that the pve server will have more of us old vanilla people around since the ganking attracts the kiddos but noway to confirm that, of course. It's just a hunch. It should have a more mature feel to it regardless though.

Not really the reason for me, but I see it as a plus to be able to play on the PvE server from the beginning. Bothers me a bit that they are already at BWL and I'm a bit late to the party.

It's not the only reason for me but it is one of the reasons. I would love to experience a fresh new server. Also considering I only started on Nost a short while ago I don't have anything to lose by swapping really.

Nostalrius is on it's 5th year of development and a launched server with almost every bit of the content available at launch working at this point.

It's true Nos has 6 months worth of player input and fixes, but five years doesn't mean that much. Another server launched pretty flawlessly and didn't have that development time. I'm guessing it'll depend on effort and skill as much as time.

As an example, a TBC server launched not long ago, but was pretty much out of the box stuff. So yeah, who knows :)

DeeMarie, the contender is on this third year since its inauguraion, so I think it does mean something. But also obviously the 6 months of live bug fixing means alot too. Then there's the massive advantage of having cheaters and hackers getting creative and making it possible for new parameters to be invented against them. I'm sure nostalrius is right now best equipped against cheaters of all the private servers. Kronos is like iOS, almost no one wants to hack it, so it's not a fair comparison.
