There was a 400+ reply thread on 4chan the day this happened. Most of the replies were "you should have seen this coming", pointing towards the country and the host as clear points of weakness. Many were sympathetic and understanding, but there wasn't any indication that vengeance was an appropriate response.

These strange guys making their websites and saying that they will make a new Nostalrius are just retarded. So many idiots believing that they will handle such a big project alone, Nostalrius didn't even say anything yet but they are spamming with shitty sites, forums and fanpages.. Get real ppl...

I will second this, careful everyone...

These people are fishing for your account information since most of you probably use the same username/pass to sign up to a forum that you do for your ingame account.

A real project may emerge from the rubble here but wait for it to arrive before signing up anywhere. 8-)

30 pages in and still seeing questions like this, and still waiting for the answer, maybe in the next 15 pages I'll find it, but I'm going to keep this question alive in case I don't. I also haven't happened across the paperwork blizz sent to nost. Can we see that stuff? There are lawyers and developers that would be happy to help. But there are also people who can learn from the mistakes if no help can be had here.

Damn... I had no clue servers like this existed. I always wanted to play the classic version again. After Cataclysm I quit, as the expansions never returned the feeling I had with the classic game.

Too bad I just figured out now that these classic servers exist, until I read the news about the shutdown. Hopefully there will be a new server from Nostalrius online soon. Really would like to play the classic version again! :-)

@Suanmere: They are not suing Nostalrius. They are suing the provider - who is hosting "illegal" content that is bound by copyright protection.

It shows, that Nostalrius would have been fine forever.. if it was hosted on a company, that had balls and was not bound by "western" laws. They are cutting the cord to the servers, not the servers themselves.

Please do forgive (and possibly correct) me if I'm wrong but doesn't this further support the claims that all they need to do is change the provider? One that is situated in a different country.
'tis but a jest, brother!

They can do it, but Nost is not the only one project on their host. So much easier to switch them off
