1700 people showing up for showing interest in a new server is not enough in my opinion.
While the developers were setting up the pve realm, the lag and crashes was at its highest i ever tried.
I would love to see some statistics for the server resources, on the new hardware, when they ran the 2 servers at once. CPU + memory usage etc.
A new startup company, wouldn't put everything on high risk (to loose everything) after 6 months of business, even tho they have been successful. Or at least they would consider it and make deeper research to see if it was possible to keep stabile. I sense many pro and many against a new server.
Around 500 left the PvP realm, to participate in the support.
I don't know if its a good idea or bad (can't make up my mind completely), to establish another realm, i feel sad about loose some players for another realm - I've experience from other private servers, where people come and go, you get new friends, and loose some without a word... I think one of the strong points of why and how Nostalrius is successful, is the traffic and heavy population. (ofcourse some people will come and go) But on private servers population is a really strong asset, which not should be taken lightly.
I could understand if the new hardware could easily handle 10.000 players, and with 3 months of increasingly player rate (with different IP addresses). Also if the PvE progress was further on the PvP server, like after the War Effort (AQ opening) - then I could understand if the staff and developers, wanted to see if there was potential for a new server restart. (Who dosen't like to participate in new lvl 1-60 race).
New beginnings is always welcome to, so many of us, true and old gamers.
But that shouldnt just happen becourse of whine over ganks, (hard time leveling) or just becourse the money is there... its should be timed and planned, ... and promoted differently, so we don't ruin the now a bit huge private server community that we all see (and like).. what steps should there be, to get retailers into the private server community, without too much 'noise' so we don't risk a lawsuit or other ways shutdown of the server..
I'm thinking, more.. live streamers, youtubers (pewdiepie lol), forum posts, reddit posts, twitter posts, developer interviews.. brand it.. (little different and by other ways than normal companies maybe) - facebook ads (lol, jk) but i hope you catch my drift...
Sit down, make strategy plans.. and well formed researches.. before you risk everything.. on splitting your current successful server..
(Why would the server fail? if it stayed on this path?, without a twin server - now people can level, and join molten core raiding, and soon to be blackwing lair.. and so forth..)
Good work Nost, we all support your initiatives, but remain wise.. don't try to fix something there aint broken
