Hey folks,
I just wanted to express a though on everything that's happened so far.
I think behind this beloved server taken down, is hidden a bigger problem .
This is a clear example that Intellectual Propriety is a broken idea, fallen into the void of greed. It used to help people create a keep creating, and maybe it is still the case sometimes, but it's becoming more and more just another way to milk people from their money by puting a fence arround cultural goods.
To me, the idea of Intellectual Propriety as it is today, is not compatible with the way the internet works. And that is because the internet, as a tool, has the means and the capabilities to support an other consumer model, far from the money-centric consumerism that corporations has created outside. It has the means to support community-driven projects, turning people from consumers into creators.
It has the capabilities to empower people, to stand against the totatilitarism of companies trying to force people to buy their most recent products, regardless of the quality of those products.
That's why people made private servers when the requests from the community remained unanswered ( or answered by a patronizing asshole on stage ) by Blizzard.
And at this point I can only be impressed by how stubborn and pround they are, claiming they are not putting legacy servers because of hardware issues and bugs and shit. The Nostalrius team with 30 volunteers making this work just proved how wrong they are.
Anyway, very sorry if I went a little too far with this, just wanted to get this out, to me this is another tiny symptom of what's broken in society today.
Many kisses to y'all,
