Hey folks,

I just wanted to express a though on everything that's happened so far.

I think behind this beloved server taken down, is hidden a bigger problem .

This is a clear example that Intellectual Propriety is a broken idea, fallen into the void of greed. It used to help people create a keep creating, and maybe it is still the case sometimes, but it's becoming more and more just another way to milk people from their money by puting a fence arround cultural goods.

To me, the idea of Intellectual Propriety as it is today, is not compatible with the way the internet works. And that is because the internet, as a tool, has the means and the capabilities to support an other consumer model, far from the money-centric consumerism that corporations has created outside. It has the means to support community-driven projects, turning people from consumers into creators.
It has the capabilities to empower people, to stand against the totatilitarism of companies trying to force people to buy their most recent products, regardless of the quality of those products.
That's why people made private servers when the requests from the community remained unanswered ( or answered by a patronizing asshole on stage ) by Blizzard.

And at this point I can only be impressed by how stubborn and pround they are, claiming they are not putting legacy servers because of hardware issues and bugs and shit. The Nostalrius team with 30 volunteers making this work just proved how wrong they are.

Anyway, very sorry if I went a little too far with this, just wanted to get this out, to me this is another tiny symptom of what's broken in society today.

Many kisses to y'all,

I hadn't played on the Nostalrius for nearly a year (2 more days) and it also stings to see the server be shutdown. I have my memories when I played on the server and cherish every one of them. Nostalrius gave me the opportunity to do things in Vanilla that I didn't get a chance to, such as crafting a Arcanite Rifle, or being able to run players through an instance to hope for certain gear to drop for them.

Like others have said, if a official Vanilla server is ever made, I'd most likely go back to it. Will there be another private server with a community like this? Probably not, but we can all dream for it to come true.

Viper wrote:Regarding the future release of Nostalrius related data; we confirmed that we will *not* be officially endorsing any private server. We have the idea and sense that Nostalrius can no longer live if Blizzard does not accept it. Nostalrius was a fan made project; therefor, hiding it in offshore countries to continue against the original game creator would be a transgression of our principles, of the reasons why Nostalrius existed in the first place.

Look, I support you all and your decision to not go to battle on this, but this reasoning is bull. The idea that you won't endorse a private server or move the server to another country because that would go against the original game creator is ludicrous.

You ALREADY went against Blizzard and what they want by hosting a private server. Hell, you went even further by releasing a version that Blizzard themselves have said isn't good and refuse to put out again for consumption.

Do your fanbase a service by at least being honest and upfront about your reasons please. Nobody will think lesser of you for being scared of Blizzard's legal division. I think all of us would have to change our pants if they came after us.
