What are the best classes & specs for each different role?

Sure that is a way you can use a Protection paladin, given he in fact does more threat than the DPS. However I still don't find it very valuable I can hardly remember myself dying on Nefarian while main tanking. And I'd rather take the death and left a fury warrior tank the rest of the fight than bring a Protection Paladin which IMO has VERY limited use in raids.

Like I will agree it will be easier to do supp room / lab packs / nef p1 as well but I don't find those reason good enough to bring a protection paladin because they are all really really easy to deal with. Like the bring a guy because he will be slightly more useful 10% of the raid and be vastly inferior the rest is just not a good deal to me.


EDIT: Like if you wanted to be "safe" like that without a protection paladin, you could just have a fury warrior in mostly tank gear doing full DPS without salvation, then he would get the aggro and just swap to Sword and Board if MT died. No reason to use a protection paladin imo.

But Consecration is in fact scaling with Attack Power here on Nostalrius, not Spell Power. When I tank 5/10 mans, I don't even bother using Seal/Judgement of Righteousness. I use Seal of the Crusader to boost my AP by 351 and spam rank 1 Consecration as I end up being the top DPS while using STR/AP and tanking gear and zero spell power

No it's standard on all private servers seeing as they are all based on the same emulated open source code - Peenix was exactly the same before the core merge - Paladins are the most bugged class by far as none of our abilities work properly here or on Peenix still to this day.

This is further compounded by itemization limitations and actual/detrimental bugs facing us (i.e.: T2 has zero STR or spell dmg since Nostalrius is currently at a patch 1.6 era itemization) and Consecration taking up a hidden debuff and also not being able to be cast in the same area by two Paladins - i.e. only the first Paladin who casts Consecration will have their DoT actually tick - the second Paladin's spell animation will cast but do no damage.

You know this thread has become totally pointless and should be relegated to the paladin subsection. There are 9 classes and even more specs. Not even a full page has been devoted to them. This entire conversation, virtually all of it being without intellectual merit, is about protection paladins.

Let's set Holystrike and Nostalrius aside for the time being as I don't feel it's fair or my place to use him as an example - which I even alluded to in my original post - I only listed him because Ihealwpvp kept frothing at the mouth about him.

Let's focus on me and my own personal DPS when I was on Feenix in order to be fair to Holystrike and I can therefore relate from my own personal experiences. Likewise, since I don't even raid as Ret here on Nostalrius (I'm 11/25/15 Hybrid Reck spec), let's focus on things that I can personally vouch for myself shall we?

I believe this screenshot was taken from my first raid with Pleasuretown Adventures so let's use this as my benchmark as this was my very first time participating in endgame 40man raiding on Feenix:

I believe my gear at the time was something along the following lines - again this is purely from memory so I'm not 100% sure:

Head: Lionheart Helm
Neck: Amulet of the Darkmoon
Shoulder: Spaulders of the Grand Crusader (solo farmed Naxx trash to obtain)
Back: Might of the Tribe
Chest: Ghoul Skin Tunic (solo farmed Naxx trash to obtain)
Wrist: Bracers of Brutality
Weapon: Blackfury
Relic: Libram of Fervor | Libram of Hope
Hands: Black Grasp of the Destroyer
Belt: Belt of the Grand Crusader (solo farmed Naxx trash to obtain)
Legs: Titanic Leggings
Boots: Slime Kickers
Finger: Ring of Fury
Finger: Don Julio's Band
Trinket: Hand of Justice
Trinket: Blackhand's Breadth

Now granted that this was before the Feenix core merge and the Razorgore fight at that time was a custom scripted fight as they hadn't been able to code the blizzlike encounter at the time.

But the fact that most, if not all of the exact same bugs are present here on Nostalrius as they were on Feenix at the time - with the only major difference being that there was no debuff limit on bosses at the time on Feenix (they instituted 16 debuff slots when the core merge went live).

THIS MEANS THAT EVERYONE WAS DOING MORE OVERALL DPS THAN THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO. (added to my forum response to Taladril for extra impact)

That being said, I still came 10th on SWS while using only a 62 DPS 2handed weapon (Blackfury). Yes, I was roughly 50% of the DPS that Greens was able to put out, but if you will recall, he had spent the previous 1-2 years raiding Naxxramas and so he was absolutely kitted out.

Does me coming 10th while stepping into my very first raid with PTA mean that all of those players are shit or were asleep at the wheel during this fight? PTA is a guild in which even you would agree if full of very skilled players.
