I've always wondered this (achievements)

Discuss anything here. But do not forget that our rules still apply !

I've always wondered this (achievements)

So.. I know this isn't really a discussion for current times, but I've always wondered and I can't help my curiosity now and have to ask, and I thought the people of Nostalrius would probably be the most knowledgeable.

What happened when WotLK and achievements came around ? Did people who had completed several achievements get them right from the beggining ?

Ie: if someone completed all the quests in azeroth and outlands, did they get the 2 loremaster achievements right off the bat?
Or dungeons, if they've done all the dungeons, did they get the achievement for them ?

If not, how did someone with an existing character get loremaster if he couldn't do those quests anymore ? This seems unfair and most likely not the case... So did blizz monitor what dungeons each player had completed, how many quests, etc. If so, does Nostalrius do this ?

Nostrils isn't doing Wrath, so this is a non-issue.

Read the very first sentence.. this wasn't really related to Nost, but I wanted to know out of curiosity. Sorry if this wasn't the place to post this.

I have no idea why you'd ask a question related to Wrath if you already knew Nost isn't doing a Wrath server.

Achievements were as retroactive as possible in that it credits you if the game can definitively track them, such as ones based on reputation, completed quests, etc. You only got credit for killing a boss if you completed a quest that requires the boss to be killed or if you owned a piece of loot from it. You had to do stuff like 100 WSG wins or win AB 2000-1990 from scratch, as the game had no way of retroactively awarding them.

Patch 3.0.2:
The all new Achievement System has been implemented and the Achievement panel can be accessed via the interface. While many achievements are not retroactive, we have done our best to credit as many as possible. Gamemasters will not be able to grant achievements for past accomplishements.

For what I recall, achievements linked to TBC raids (such as getting Hand of A'dal) were easily granted retroactively due to people having the title. Another impression I have (not certain) is that if your character was equipping something from an end boss of an instance, the achivement for completing said instance was also given. Loremaster achievements however, I'm positive weren't granted retroactively.

Yes, questing achieve's were retro active. You could also currently see if you have completed a quest with a simple LUA command. I forgot on the top of my head, but that is how they tracked most ach's. Like Ony's head completed for the Ony ach, blackhand quest for UBRS, etc.

you would log in for the first time and be showered in achievements if you never logged in until after wotlk from vanilla/bc etc.
