Dont invite Priesttess to your dungeons...

by Cowiee » Mon Dec 21, 2015 8:11 pm

Hey you guys.

Id like to make a thread about my Dire Maul North Tribute run.

So we had a group for DM N tribute run, and the healer Priesttess joined for vendor loot basically. The group was fine, and we kill the King, and the tribute chest appears. Priesttess goes to the chest, takes the mana pots, health pots (these are entitled to him, because he is T2 geared), and loots all the greens (fair enough, he did come for vendor loot). The drama starts when we notice that 2x of Staff of the Ogre Magi dropped, and I immediately suggest we should sell the staff on /world as to harvest more profit (The other Ogre Staff I got). For some reason this doesn't ring well with Priesttess, who keeps arguing for looting the Staff. We seemingly agree that I pay him the 10g in advance, because he wouldn't believe I would mail him his share (a thief never trusts anyone). Instead of this more logical arrangement, he takes my 10g, and then he takes the takes the staff anyway, and taking it from our interested buyer.

Please excuse my language, I got pretty mad i-r-l. Id just like to post these screenshots, as to warn people not to have their day ruined. Ill upload the pictures here so you can laugh at my U.I and read the chat.

So you had a deal with this dude that he got all items that noone else needed? Seems odd to me, but hey if everyone was fine with the arrangement, who am I to judge.

So he is entitled to 7.35g at least for the staff. Any profit from selling the staff to an outside party is going to net him very little extra gold for a rather long wait. Understandably he would rather just go again. From his perspective selling the staff is a waste of time. Sure he could have argued that he should get 7.35g + (sellprice-7.35g)/shares but he didn't and even with that arangement he might prefer to just hit the instacecap and do something else.

We don't see the start of the conversation, but you yourself indicate that this was what Priestess communicated; A desire to loot the item and keeo going. And it does seem that Priestess was correct in the assessment that you didn't understand why he didn't wanna sell the item.

Anyway somehow you manage to convince him not to loot the Rod, and you traded him 10g.

At this point you just couldn't help yourself and told him to "go away".

Brilliant move.

The conversation so far hadn't really been bad from what I can tell, but from his perspective you have now not only wasted his time and been rather clueless, you have also shooed him away.

While I think it is a slight overreaction on his part when he has already agreed to selling the item I certainly have some understanding for his thinking "fuck this", looting the item as per the initial agreement (that you wanted to deviate from) and reseting the instance to go again instead of stoping the instance running just so that you can sell a staff to a guy still in Orgrimmar for a whooping 12.5g per person.

This is not even close to enough to make me avoid grouping with this player. I think you have mostly yourself to blame here. I'd hope for your sake that you take two lessons from this:

1) When someone is in disagreement with you over what to do, try to see things from their point of view. Are their incentives perhaps not aligned with yours?

2) Don't insult the person that you are negotiating with. It will make them less inclined to do things your way. If they have actually sacrificed something to accomodate you, as in this case, you shouldn't be surprised if they decide that the deal is off. Use your inner voice if you must, but don't be an idiot and type it/say it out loud.

He gained something by accommodating to me (an additional 3g), he only caused loss to the guy who needed the staff, and me who would like to sell it. The instance was over, he could just have taken my 10g or just waited for me to mail his share so I couldn't have wasted his time for selling the item. I doubt he had any instance cap in mind when he snatched that staff.

I agree that insulting him, and not being diplomatic enough during this deal making was a mistake on my side, which is why I uploaded the pictures so you could judge for yourself.

You're an idiot. One thing I've learnt in life is never trust anyone until they have demonstrated that they can be trustworthy. To imply that not trusting you off the bat somehow proves he is a thief is not only a laughable non-sequitur, but also reveals you to be a clueless, judgmental prick.

Bottom line, I wouldn't trust you either.

So did Priestess "basically" join for vendor loot, or did she actually join for vendor loot? Because those are two different things, and it looks like per your ingame conversation, that it wasn't for vendor loot, it was for any items that people didn't need.
