the comparison isn't smart, while we didn't live through the world wars we(or at least I) played through all the expansions and by seeing how the game developed + checking the statistics it shows that all the expansions leading to WOTLK got the subs higher on the scale, the moment Catacylsm struck the numbers suddely got lower reaching 5.6mil subs now in WoD. It can become a debate after all even though the start was "x is better than y"
