Maybe they could join forces with Nost team in the future

"Dear Ragers!

It's about time for a statement from my side. As many of you might already have noticed, the outcome of this project is not as good as some of us might have expected.

The player activity on the realm is low, no discussion about that. I decided that this has to end before you and we are putting more effort into this project.

So I decided to close our realm at 20:00 CEST today.

The Stormrage Project Team and especially I are really sad that it didn't turn out as expected for everyone.

Thanks for your trust and patience.

Yours, Junia"

I was not expecting that. I thought that they would at least leave it up a bit longer, to see if their numbers would rise, or if they would remain consistently low. Shutting the server down after three days seems too soon to give it a chance. Well, that is a shame. I was hoping they would do well, but perhaps they need to prepare and test more before the server can thrive.

The biggest thing they needed to do was advertise. I was there at the first day of server launch, there was less then 300 player's at first, with about a 2:1 ratio in favor of alliance. That only lasted for a few hours, before a very steady decline in numbers down to less then 100 total.

While yes there should have been more testing to fix bugs that could happen in early zones (there was a particularly glaring one with ranged mobs running away from players) I think the poor initial turnout was a bigger contribution to the server's failure. Especially when all of those players were fully aware that there would be a 1000+ PVE server releasing a mere week away that would likely have fewer bugs.

If anything, I think the fact that the Stormrage admins decided to shut the thing down so soon is indicative that they really should NOT try to get it started up again any time soon (if ever). If they feel like it's a failure, and given the difficulties they have already experienced, how can they be expected to have the morale to do all that needs to be done to pull the server out of the gutter?

I don't intend to sound mean, I am sorry that things didn't pan out like they wanted. But this whole thing is a good example of how you need more then good intentions to do something like this successfully. And while the Nostalrius team is far from flawless, there's no denying what they have accomplished is impressive.

Opening a server to close it after 3 days since they didnt have the best start in WoW history.
Epic fail, I'm glad they closed it since the staff just showed everyone it wouldn't have been worth the time lol.

Nostalrius and its team are not perfect, and I didn't appreciate their vagueness during the Kryll event. However, yes, the things they have accomplished with their server is impressive. That is one of the reasons I play here, because not many others can offer the same quality. While in my time playing here I have had some disconnections, they are not frequent. Otherwise, I have never had lag problems or anything else to speak of. I have encountered very few bugs in the game (almost none), with the only major one being the Sapphire of Sky bug, in Teldrassil. It was needed for a quest and never spawned inside the chest. Although it was a while before they got to it, it was eventually fixed.

It is sad what happened with the Stormrage Project, as I know a lot of people were looking forward to it. I do hope they get another chance in the future.

Are you talking about another private server? And if so, who cares? Nostalrius is all you will ever need... >_>

Nostalrius is understaffed, every other server out there (except 2-man CC) are overstaffed. The communication is easy when you have no playerbase. Nostalrius has the biggest playerbase and no time to hold your hands, the vagueness comes from the choise to not overly indulge us with information. As you know, for every piece of information there are ten more questions.

Having tried other servers with lots of empty promises and lot of pointless pampering, I now realize that I prefer a good product and good results over that down to earth and friendly interaction with the staff.

Actually their server had better performance and stability (ya, ok only 100-300 players). Hope the constant lags are reduced on nost pve realm with fewer players.

Lol yeah but what would you rather have 300 players and 20ms or 6000 players and 40ms?

40ms is fine too (in retail it was most time 70-100ms). Problem is server side lag. There is way more delay than 40ms.
Best would be to set a pop limit (at least for pve) so the lags reduce if not managable otherwise (although it means to have a limit at ~4k whatever). Stability of course is way more important!
