WoW died the moment they sold out to Activision, they destroyed CoD and did the same thing to WoW.

Whats so bad about making new chars move faster and getting your alts to cap faster? I fully approve those additions

A few weeks ago just for kicks I rolled a new Nelf hunter on the live servers to compare with my recent vanilla experience.

Everything has been so dumbed down its beyond a joke.

Mobs seem to explode instantly, dingged level 2 then 3 then 4 in a minute or so just standing in 1 spot, blasting away at everything surrounding me, found out that the Nelf 1-5 start area has been gutted down to 3-4 quests then poof, onto Dolanar, all the mobs are yellow... urgh.

No challenge, zero risk - even without any heirlooms.
Just blow your way through the zone without exploring or experiencing anything interesting - like getting Forked over by those level 3-4 spiders in the cave :D

It was said many times already. Nobody wants to take away your fast leveling. Just give an alternative for those who enjoy the immersion of leveling, completing quest chains with certain level of challenge. Heck it's not even possible anymore to pick a quest 3 levels above you.

I actually agree with you. The change to the talent tree was needed as the trees were just becoming more and more bloated each expansion. However, I do think it is a problem that when you level up you don't get the satisfying "talent point." Sure a lot of these talents were (what you would call boring), but I always felt excited to get these things. I don't have a problem with +crit talents, but what I do have a problem with are talent trees that go 51 points deep, it starts to not make as much sense at that point, as a lot 31 talent points are really strong, and being able to obtain both, well it would take a lot of juggling.

I agree the talent system had to be revamped, but I don't really like the way they did it. However, current retail wow isn't aiming to people like me. I realize that, and that is why I no longer play it.

and there was always a cookie cutter "best" spec that you had to use or you were gimping yourself.

I wouldn't really call it cookie-cutter specs, but rather that some talents were just useless. That was a problem of blizzard thinking things like "wand specilization" would be a good idea for mages. It was their shortsightedness that they didnt want to bother trying to correct, more than there needing to be a necessary change.

With the new talent system however, they just take all of those filler talents and make them passives, leaving only the important choices. And for most classes, the choices are actually kinda equal to each other. It has you switching talents between fights to maximize your effectiveness, which is also pretty interesting.

Sure, but it doesn't have the same feel of D&D that the mmo genre is based off of. Thats my main criticism of where the MMO genre is heading. It has really abandoned its roots.

Yeah, I have a nostalgia boner for the old talents, but the new talents are not literally hitler like everyone makes them out to be.

I agree. The change gets more hate than it deserves, but make no mistake it does deserve criticism. The main problem with retail is that they have chosen to go with a model that has alienated the original MMO fanbase. There literally isn't a good MMO to play right now. At least an MMO for people who actually like the so called "negative" aspects of the genre.

Pros and cons to both vanilla and the current state of Warcraft. I like both, that's why I play both.

I very much appreciate the simplicity and community aspects of Nos, but I also appreciate how 'streamlined' everything in retail is. Warcraft has been my favorite/most played game for the past 10 years. Just give me any expansion, and I will find something about it that I enjoy.
