I/We didn't use credit card, and I was 9-10, my two class mates started a bit before I did and got me into it, a friends brother and his pals who were around your age helped us too, eventually my cousins started too so it was fun.
And can you specify indulgent? My childhood was far from relaxed, neutral it was, but it wasn't pleasant lol, lets get that straight
