Nostalrius is different mate. Never has a private server ever been this popular.

There are two big drop offs in the population. level 20 and level 40. Almost half of the census is between 1-20. It's just a phase, and will taper down as people realize how horrible vanilla leveling is.

Horrible? Do you have a bad opinion or something? Vanilla levelling is so much more fun than retail levelling.

I don't find Kill 10 Murlocs, collect 3 mushrooms, or waking up 4 sleeping dudes with an item to be very fun/interesting at all.

yeah, sure
thats why population only growing and growing since release

newbie sees 7k online -> hmm, server looks promising -> suffers from lvling but still lvling
even usual 0.3 sec delay during peak times does not scare them away -> crying but still playing

The only real problem I have encountered is the very short distance that mobs appear at. Really annoying.
But other than that, even with 9k online my game runs smooth with 20ms and barely any delay. Actually, I only have clear delay with dismounting somehow. Not with spells or anything.

Ok, here is my idea. We will have a day called "The Reckoning" or something epic. On that day, the server is semi-randomly split into two servers. Guilds aren't broken up, but overall guilds are analyzed and evenly distributed between the servers. People that aren't in guilds are randomly split. A cool feature for these people would be to (if possible) analyze who people party with most and try to keep those people together.

Then at random times going forward, people will be granted a server transfer. You won't know when it will come, or if, but randomly people are given the opportunity to switch. This will be sort of a consolation prize if "The Reckoning" didn't quite work out for you.

TLDR: Basically a lot of algorithms, but essentially split the server on a random basis without breaking guilds and friends up (it possible). Possibility of transferring later.

**EDIT**
I will note that I haven't experienced any really negative issues with the population. Sure, a few times getting quest mobs was difficult, but never impossible and grouping up with local players usually helped. Sort of forced socializing, which is cool.

**EDIT 2**
This is also assuming the developers can handle a second server. They have made it clear in the past that it might not be possible with the additional need for Game Masters and hardware (of course).

I play on Nos for the PvP...I am waiting for the pre-nerf AV to be released.

For everything else I play on Kronos...why don't people make that their second realm? Surely that would help Nos in terms of lowering the numbers for stability.

Something was posted on r/wowservers recently that I agree quite a lot with.

At least try to keep your silly claims grounded in reality.
