The /who numbers are only for your faction, so you're just seeing horde. Alliance has about twice as many players. At the time of launch, there was approximately 90 horde and 170 alliance on. That was the absolute peak, and it slowly dwindled from there. By 10pm server time (four hours after launch), it was down to about 50/100. At the time of that video, with 34 horde on, there's probably 70ish alliance.
The server is sort of buggy. Not overwhelmingly broken but lots of little niggling issues. One huge issue I found is that my character's mana regen was half of what it should be, which is obviously completely gamebreaking. Notice that in the video, that guy's hunter regenerates about 10 mana per tick. On Nost, a level 1 hunter will regenerate 19 mana per tick. Probably 20 by the time you're the same level as that guy.
Other than that, it was just the typical bugs you get with unpolished mangos servers. Tons of ability bugs, mobs dropping green items above their level, stuff like that. Hard to say what all is wrong after one day, but so far I'd rate it "fairly buggy but not horrible." Main issue is the mana regen.
I'm not sure why OP is talking about no rollbacks, because the server only crashed once and there was a bit of rollback. The length of the rollback probably depends on how many players are on a server as more players means you have to have fewer autosaves to prevent lag. However, I've been getting personal disconnects (without the server crashing) about once an hour for no apparent reason, which only happens on Stormrage, and those have no reason to cause a rollback because it's just you going linkdead. Unfortunately, the server also has that stupid "feature" where you insta-die if you're disconnected during combat.
I feel sorry for their staff. They don't seem like bad people but they really screwed the pooch on this launch. Launching early only makes sense if you're offering something that's as good as Nost or better. Nobody's gonna choose Stormrage over Nostalrius' new PvE server. Even though I frankly expected that even before SR launched, I didn't think it would be such a weak launch.
I genuinely thought 1k+ people would log in and check it out, but that most of them were just waiting for Nost and wouldn't stick around. Seems those people didn't even bother to have a look at SR, which is all the same if they weren't gonna stay, but is nevertheless worrying for that server. It's total anti-hype. I'm really surprised that so few people came for the launch. SR isn't that unknown, surely most people waiting for the new Nost server also knew that SR was launching. It seems people just didn't care.
I agree with OP that Stormrage is basically dead and done already. With such low launch numbers, they have no chance. Servers don't grow tenfold after launch. Even the explosively popular Nostalrius, launching at a time when there was a huge demand for a fresh vanilla server, only maybe doubled its numbers over the months following launch. It stands to reason that SR won't grow as rapidly due to the lesser demand now and the fact that NostPvE is coming in a week. I doubt they'll ever see 500 people online.
There's even a possibility that the 250 of launch hour is the highest they'll ever have, which is unfortunate because they seem like nice people who did their best. They just have no chance to compete with Nostalrius.
