Am i too old as a graduate student?

by valaquenta » Sun Oct 18, 2015 5:13 am

I'm doing my master degree in marketing/commercial negociation in Europe in a good, well known business school (took a 1 year break after my bachelor degree), and i'm going to finish it three months after my 27th anniversary, i'm starting to wonder if it's not too old to start working at such an age, i'm kinda worried about it, being older than the average graduate student (you can get it when you're 23-24 if you don't switch degrees or take a break in my country, though the average is more than that).

Am i worrying for nothing?

I'd say so, if you have been travelling or done something otherwise productive up until now?

to answer your question : i've been travelling for half a year in thailand, then i want back to france to pass an examination (for my business school : the master degree). Previously, I stopped studying after two years (undergraduate) because i wasn't sure of what i was doing, i needed to think about it : that's what happened basically x)

Taking a break to stop and think about what you're doing, is never a bad thing if you ask me. It gives you time to read the Silmarillion as well ;)

I'm 26 and when i went to business school our class consisted of people aged 19-40+. No problem at all, age diversity is great.

I'm 26 and just finished my second program. I did Electro-Mechanical Engineering and then went back after a year break and took Computer Systems Technology. Where I live a lot of people I grew up with took the fast track to adulthood and went to college or university immediately after high school and were done by the time they were 21 or 22. Many of them got pregnant or got someone pregnant or got backed into a corner and ended up proposing to the first person that came into their life, lots were high school sweethearts and such. When I was that age I started getting kinda depressed and worried and the like because I felt life was moving too slowly for me or not moving at all and I got that fear you get when you think everyone and everything is leaving you behind in the dust. Now I've began to see that most of them rushed their lives and never experienced anything between finishing school and starting their own family and statistically speaking are most inclined to run into domestic problems later down the road than someone who took the time to establish themselves before they took it up themselves to begin another chapter. So if you feel like you're too old or everyones leaving you behind don't worry about it cause they're the ones who are missing things, you'll get to where they are eventually.

Remember: Success is a journey, not a destination.

Never too old for knowledge. Or too young.

Too old sorry.
Buy a good sleeping bag as long as you have some money left.
