Resolutions for UN conference

by Simonich » Tue Apr 05, 2016 6:27 pm

So in a few days i will be participating in a UN conference in which i will represent Saudi Arabia. It will last 3 days, 12 hours per day, and i'm gonna have to be speaking english all the time. First time having an experience like that, it makes me quite nervous.

I had to make resolutions for 2 matters, as i have chosen to be the political comitee. The situation in yemen, and self-determination. Maybe you have some personal knowledge about these matters that could help me enhance my resolutions? Just by any chance, eh. Here's what i currently got :

Self-Determination :

-Observing the lack of self-determination in several countries internationally

1. Desires National Sovereignty in all recognized countries
2. Expresses its hope for regions affected by past colonios to reach full independence
3. Strongly condems actions of aggression towards other governments

The Situation in Yemen

-Alarmed by the constant violation of the UN Charter against warfare
-Deeply concerned about the loss of civilians
-Fully aware of terrorist actions and movements taking place, in result of terrorist organizations gaining ground

1. Expresses it's hope to reach a cease fire between the two parties which are currently engaged in combat
2. Encourages the two parties to start negotiations through speech and diplomatic actions, in order to prevent further deaths
3. Calls upon Iran to not interfere with the attempts of Saudi Arabia to enstablish a legitimate government in Yemen
4. Draws the attention of all countries to the humanitarian issues taking place in Yemen, as an attempt to reinforce humanitarian aid and actions supporting human rights
5. Reminds both parties of the presence of terrorist organizations currently troubling all other belligerents in the situation of Yemen.
6. Considers the use of UAVs as a solution to combat terrorist organizations in Yemen.

Besides that, have you personally had an experience in something similiar like this event?
Was good to have you all

I stopped working in geopolitics a short while ago.
However if you have Saudi Arabia as assignment on the issue of self-determination, you should probably prepare to answer to questions regarding military intervention of the Saudis in Bahrain, in order to prevent a regime change. You can probably spin it like the actual Saudi govt did, say that the revolts were instigated by Iranian intelligence, shia extremism, yadda yadda, and that you only intervened due to the clauses of mutual security of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Regarding Yemen, eh, it's been almost a year since I disconnected from the reports from the ground regarding the combats between Al-Houthi, the 'government' in Aden and whatnot, but for what I gather, Saudi interests would probably lean towards restoring the previous status quo and reversing Houthi/Ansarullah's influence in Yemeni politics. So probably try to push for some cease-fire /arm turnover under some politically marketable buzzword, say, "peaceful resolution of conflict" while asking for 'the return of rule of law', which would obviously mean giving Hadi back his seat in Sana.

I never did high school UN models myself, but I know that what teachers will grade is a) your eloquence and handling of diplomatic language (aka, covering up any atrocity with speech-worthy jargon), and b) Faithfulness to the country you're representing, so always commenting/voting in a way that the actual Saudi Arabia would.

I believe what I just suggested works for both things.
