Is Vanilla.re a scam?

They have a cool website, many players, a structured forum and they are growing up.

Do you still think it's a scam? I am not sure about that, I want your opinion before registering.

And, is there someone playing on this server? How good is it? How many players at peak? Is it fully bugged?

It's not a scam. Also they NEVER officially claimed to be endorsed by or related to Nostalrius (apart from many players there are from Nost) in any way.

I played there for a week now. Registration is very safe because they don't even require you to provide your email address (you just input account name and password).

They have around 10 guys in their team doing GM/Dev work and promises to use Nost core once it is released. Also Nost player transfer if they are released as well.

Yes I am. But it is based on Mangos core right now and have many bugs unfixed. Players at peak is around 250 but slowing growing, and should see a boom after April 30 Nost core release. I would say if you are hunger for playing vanilla you can give it a try, or you can wait till they switch to Nost Core.

Any vultures who only swooped in immediately after nost shut down should be discounted. i dont care what they promise/how many on staff/etc. if you were dedicated to releasing a good private server it wouldn't have taken the shutdown of nost to motivate you into action, anything you could produce now will be as lazy and half assed and manipulative as your actions have shown you to be

the only people who should be receiving the nost code/database were servers who were already in operation for years before this happened. unfortunately if it doesnt happen that way all we are going to see is a dozen different scammer servers like this one popping up over night, there is no reason to enable them

Actually all the GM/Dev team are players from Nostalrius. So they didn't have any incentive to start their server when Nost was online, and only started this initiative when Nost announced their shutdown, in the hope that they can create another place for the refugees of Nostalrius who wish to see their Nost toons again on this new server.

Why would they hope for players to come over to a poorly scripted server if they cared about them at all? Youre going to take Nost code and magically it will all work properly and you're not going to mishandle it and have scam operations running with half your team unnoticed by the other half? Yeah good luck with that

Even if you end up with the Nost code which would be an awful outcome, you will have no ability to get it running or to improve it in any way whatsoever beyond the state that it is in when you receive it

I would say this part is true. It is really up to the developers' skills and experience to get things running and possibly do future updates to it. However please don't judge too quickly, if they can get a poorly scripted Mangos core running, then it's much likely they can run Nost core as well once they receive it. They even promised to deliver AQ content once they have everything running and going well.

Again, don't judge too quickly and just wait and see whether they can live up to their promises.

Will we be able to log on with our PVE realm characters as well, or will it only be open for PVP refugees?

I heard that at first they will offer to transfer both Nost PVP and PVE chars to their new Nost-based server. If the player base grows quickly and could possibly afford to be split into 2 servers, they will start a PVE server as well (though this part is not 100% certain).
