A couple questions

by Aseru » Mon Jan 25, 2016 5:14 pm

Hey guys, I am new to nostalrius. I started playing WoW in mid-late tbc, but I never raided until WoD came out. It saddens me that I never got to experience raids in the older versions of WoW (how they were meant to be). That is why I came here, I want to experience what vanilla was like (especially the raiding). My questions are:

1. Which server should I choose? PvP because of the population, or perhaps the PvE server because it is newer?

2. What are some decent (raidable) dps specs in Vanilla.

If I could get some input on these two things, that would be amazing, thanks!

Welcome to Nostalrius

1) I would say PvE because the PvP is very overpopulated and the performance (lag) is suffering and getting worse. Unless you are a die hard wpvp fan, PvE will play a lot smoother. Just roll on both and see how you feel, one has a normal server population (1.5-3k) and another has a crazy booming population (8-11k) that comes with pros and cons. Make a lowbie toon and you'll know which you like.

2) It depends if you're looking to min max and join a hardcore guild or join a more casual one. All specs can raid since this is an 12 year old game, but in vanilla some roles were simply powerful than others.

Best DPS: Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Hunter, Warrior, Spriest(more utIlity)

For the spec of each individual class and more info look through the class forums and there will be plently of information to answer all your questions.

Hello and I hope you enjoy your stay :)

1. I would a have to agree with Valandar. PvE is the way to go, the PvP server is way to overpopulated. That isn't a bad thing if you love World PvP, but if you aren't die hard for it, I would say roll PvE, the population is nearly perfect there and the community seems nicer, (only because of the smaller population). The average pop I see on the PvE is 2k at my times.

2. This is a very tricky question because it is dependent on play style, expenses while leveling and ease of leveling and group utility in both endgame and leveling. I will just state which ones I PERSONALLY like taking all of those into consideration:

Personally - Warlock (only because of how easy they are to level to 60) > Mage > Rogue > Warrior = Hunter (these two are difficult for me to decide which one is "better" overall) > Every other DPS

You wont be bringing many locks and spriest for DPS with these kinda limits shared by 40 people.
