Game file help

I am currently trying to find either a Vanilla or BC game file to download and be able to get onto a server but all the ones i have found do not work i have Launch Vanilla game file and launcher ready and working without a connection to game connect able.
any help would be great

Ok ive read through all of that and it got me all the way to a realm pick it auto picked for me and now will not connected . each login attempt tells me disconnected from seaver.

Greetings

Make sure the realm you're loggin' into is the normal realm, Nostalrius Begins and not the test realms. The test realms will give you a disconnect everytime you try to log in, so when you log in, hit "Esc" button fast afterwards you get the "Success" message and you'll be able to choose the normal realm again.
