New here, what realm would you recomend?

by Annachu » Wed Nov 25, 2015 4:41 pm

Hi! Anna here! *waves*
Anyway, as the title says..
I'm just starting out here on Nostalrius after years of retail and some other private servers.
I'd appreciate some suggestions as of which realm would suit me the best. ^^
I've played both on PvP and PvE realms before, I'm mostly a PvE person myself tho (raiding is what I love to do) but I don't mind PvP either.

The PvE realm looks good to me but I'm wondering since there's much less people on that one than the PvP realm (that's also the oldest, right?) if it's way harder to find people to group up and stuff like that? That is mostly my only concern.

Would really appreciate if someone would give me some pointers.
Thanks in advance! :D

Hello,

Finding a dungeon group on either the PvE or PvP server will not be a problem the main differance between them is the population and the PvP combat you might encounter on the PvP server.

But there is also the "issue" of too many players on the PvP server where there is always horde/alliance killing you and you always have to compete for herbs and some of them are crazy expensive on the PvP server same goes for quest mobs but it has been getting better with the last months.

The PVP server is the oldest one and has about 6-7k players on it during peak hours and the PVE server has about 2k players online during those times.

i can already see you playing "cute" gnome and nelfs ;)

If you don't mind pvp and corpse running to return a favor to your camper - PvP realm is for you.
Population on pvp realm is it's strongest feature and if you are in love with open world pvp there is literally no GAME currently released that will provide you this feeling of danger and thrill while questing.
It has is drawbacks tough, ores and herbs are harder to get by.

PvE is if you don't like logic. PvE realms for me make no sense in games with two OPPOSING factions.
Am I supposed to /wave /kiss /hug that alliance guy who keeps on stealing my quest mobs? No. It's simple, he is my enemy and I should be able to attack him on sight.
But that's just me... you might think other way.

Whatever you pick, welcome to Nost and bring more friends.

If you're the kind of player who whines in STV General about ganks, or thinks the forums needs to know about some Undead Rogue spamming /spit on your corpse in Hillsbrad, then please PLEASE play on the PVE server. Everybody will be better for it.

I'd choose the PVE server just so you aren't playing catch up if you do hit endgame. Plus the PVE server has blizzlike pops (1500-2500) instead of 3x that like on the PVP. Basically, if you have interest in world PVP, then roll on the PVP server. If you don't, roll on the PVE server.

I would just play on the PVE realm.

The PVP realm is old... that means established guilds.. that means less pugs, less groups for quests, etc.

Also, most of those guilds are ex-warsong scrubs, who warrior disarmed aq40 and naxx bosses while buff capped. Guild chat is like what a person who doesn't use 4chan thinks /b/ is like. And they do EVERYTHING with gdkp. It's not a very welcoming community.

... and honestly, it's pathetically easy to rank up to 11-12 through bgs. So you still have access to preraid gear and mount discounts at rank 3.

I just abandoned the PvE realm after one month of playing. Too monotonous, inevitably fall into routine and you will die of boredom! I really recommend the PvP realm!

Less groups? It has 4x the population.

I would only go for the PvE realm is you want to do progression raiding from MC/Ony onwards.

I also think the PvP server has a nice upside which alot of people forget about. Sure you get ganked alot (most often while you are either killing a mob, low HP or just by a random high lvl). But for example yesterday i was questing in Ferelas; some ally rogue overpulled on ogres and was at 5%, his last mob at like 30% when i ran towards him. He was prolly expecting a frostshock to the face. But i killed his mob for him. THE FEELS, these feels you will never have on the PvE realm. Sunny days wouldn't be special if it wasn't for rain.
Ofc you can get heartbroken when the player you saved kills you later. Even a few levels later. Sum real DBZ Guko vs Vegeta shit going on.
