will a 1.12.1 client from a different server work here? do is there something custom i need to dl?

any other 1.12.1 client will work as long as you have the correct realmlist

Except maybe of you downloaded your client from Feenix.

You only need to change the realmlist. If you can't edit the realmlist, make sure that the realmlist.wtf is not set to read-only.
