I have 2 hours /played and i just hit level 3... all of that time was spent tagging level 1 mobs along with 600 other people in the starting zone. is there something else i should do? I tried going to the mines south of goldshire but there was another 200 people there and no mobs. searched all surrounding areas with mobs below level 7 but couldn't find anything that didn't have less than 30 or so people.

Make a group of 5 so you can share kills.

I helped my friend go from 2-8 last night by letting him tag things and then I'd kill it. Make some friends. Get them to help.

Why is everyone leveling up (and QQing) a top priority. There is more to this game even at lvl 1 than just killing mobs and quests. To name a few
Learn skinning. Skin the crap out of everything and make some silver (you will need it later)
Explore. It gives you Experience. Regardless of your level you will eventually need to WALK all the way to the other zone/city to take flight paths, so why not do it at lvl 1. Yes you can die, but just resurrect at the graveyard (sometimes it saves a lot of time by putting you ahead, sometimes it brings you back). But there is no resurrection sickens until 10.
Lear fishing. Fish the crap out until 75.
Learn Cooking. Cook

This. WoW back then was very social, you groups, you made temporarily, or long-term friends to level with in each zone. It takes a while due to the population, but group up, and it'll go a bit smoother.

Right now, lvling is only for the most dedicated. If ur really eager to play - then this is what ull have to deal with right now. Otherwise, wait a few days/week and start when things are not as crowded anymore

Yeah, there are a lot of players and not enough mobs, but there is a simple solution - make a party. You'll gain less exp for a kill but complete the quest ~5x faster.

As I've told a few players, the population will spread out over time. This type of problem always occurs when something is new, and did indeed occur on retail every realm launch or new expansion. BC was probably the worst, since it thrusted entire hordes of 60s into 1 zone(The PvP was legendary though). But it's a temporary problem. Compared to the situation at launch, I've already started to notice lower level areas thinning out as the main zerg has moved on to 20s, 30s, and soon 40s. Remember that you don't have to do every quest to level, and in later zones you'll be able to kill players of the other faction. Running dungeons is also an option, as the instances are unique for your group. With so many players, dungeon groups should be common. I can also suggest everyone to try using a conformed global chat channel to post for these, such as /lfg. What we did back in retail Classic was use /lfg to post for dungeon runs, ie /lfg -> LFG DM or LFM RFD. This allows you to find groups/players across the world.

There was never that many players on a single Blizzard realm though, even on Bladefist or Kazzak (EU), the decision to not change spawnrates - while it sounds blizzlike on paper - doesn't provide a blizzlike experience at all. I'm not saying it should be changed but the game wasn't designed for having that many players on a single realm, nor did that occur during vanilla retail. A minor spawn rate increase would actually make the server more "blizzlike" than it currently is.
You also have to consider the fact that the queue system at login doesn't actually make people wait on Nostalrius which is another difference from retail.
Just my 2 cents.

I saw clusters much worse than Nostarlius during new realm launches in retail, we managed.
