New character, what class tho?

I'm thinking of playing Alliance here, I'm usually someone who plays Tanks but I'm not sure I will like tanking as warrior here, other tanks such as paladin or druid I assume are pretty horrible if you look at warriors?

I thought mage would be good first character but idk...

Warlock, rogue and hunters came to mind for DPS

And priest healing maybe?

For priest leveling, shadow spec is the way to go right?
How about warlock vs hunter leveling, which is the fastest? I think warlock can almost be same speed leveling as hunters...

Just play what you want. Some guild out there is always going to need the class you're playing because of people leaving, getting kicked, or just the guild being a newly started one. Example: If you're let's say a pre-BiS fury warrior with an outstanding application despite the warrior roster beingfull, some guild might even accept you still and kick/demote some slacker MS warrior. Guilds are always looking for dedicated and skilled players regardless of their role.

If you pick what others want you to play just so that you can feel more useful you're going to end up being miserable.

Druids are excellent off-tanks, but they are much harder to itemise for than warriors. Paladins on the other hand: Don't even bother, haven't seen anyone successfully use one of those as tanks. In TBC they become amazing tanks though. I'm sure it's possible to use a paladin, but it's probably not worth the hassle.

They are not.

Every class is needed. All that matters is that you're sufficient at your class/spec. Sure, you will have a harder time finding a guild, but you'll find one.

Druid is the worst of the tanks, don't even try. Paladin can get away with tanking 5 mans (and is actually pretty good because Consecrate) but raids require warrior tank.

Mage would be a good choice for your first character on a new server, as you can AoE farm for easy cash. (sell cloth/greens/blues on AH, lots of vendor trash as well)

Warlock is a good choice for caster DPS, as they don't have to worry about mana.

There are already a million rogues on the server.

Hunters are decent as well, and can solo just about anything. Pretty easy to play in both PvE and PvP.

Yes, Priest is the all-around best healer in vanilla.

Correct. 5 points in Wand Spec -> rest in shadow, respec at 40 for shadowform and then 5 points back into wand spec by the time you hit 45. People say that you should level Holy or Disc, but they're retarded. Imp Pain, Shadow Focus, Shadow Reach, Shadow Weaving are all really good talents. Shadow Focus especially, because you'll often be fighting mobs 3-4 levels higher than you, and 10% less chance for resist is huuuuuge.

Roll a druid that way you can tank, dps, and heal. Even though you will most likely heal raids, if you put in the effort, and by that I mean work twice as hard as other classes you can dps as Balance or off-tank as Feral.

Druids are pretty crap at group PvE content, unless you're healing. Even then, Priest or Paladin are much better healers. And actually have normal rez spells.

Conversely, Druids are one of the best and most versatile classes in PvP, once you master their huge toolkit.

Druids are great 5-man tanks in my experience and will do far better than a paladin when it comes to small packs or single mobs, which is why they will sometimes get to offtank while otherwise playing as a healer in raids. However, paladin tanks are amazing for undead dungeons where their AoE might even top the dps meter. They can also tank things like imp packs in Molten Core, but that's about it.

Do yourself a favor and go to the class/mechanic section of forum and go to each class thread to get info. General Discussion thread has more grievers, keyboard turners, and back peddler than people will insightfuland helpful facts.
