There are a variety of formulas out there all based on a manner of scale. Thankfully instead of having to do a spreadsheet there are several addons to help. The one I use is called Tank Points, there is also a TankPointsFU as a FUBar plugin. The TankPointsFU and the original Tank Points mod use slightly different formulas, but they scale the same, so just use one and stick with it..

thats grate input i will have a look at these addons

is there any rough armor value that isreally valuable to achieve at the beginning eg like 8k? I guess thats arond when the damage reduction starts to flat out or?

Undertanker wrote:Armor is negligible as it takes about 400 for a 1%damage reduction of physical damage. Most things that will kill you in BWL are magical damage machanics.

thus, only stam helps vs magic and no armor, dodge etc, is thatright? How is it with the 440 deff, will you still be crit immune vs magic attacks in this way?

That is for physical attacks. The first boss you will want to be 440 on is Bloodlord 3rd boss in bwl as his Mortal Strike can crit 8k damage.

Vael Rag 315 Fire resist.

Ebonroc 200 shadow resist.

As a true tank you will so many different gear items it is retarded. You will constantly move gear in and out depending on the fight, aoe or big hitter, what resist is needed for a fight.

Getting an upgrade will different def means changing out other items to kerp 440 with most hp.

Use outfitter addon to manage your sets and swap with 1 button.

Being def cap is more important than armor. Do i want to take 1 - 2 % less damage and risk being crit for 200% damage? No. Again bwl bosses kill you with magic damage. Broodlord is the only one that will do it pure melee.

1% less crit chance = 1% less damage taken.

All defense cap really does is making the damage you take more predictable and easier to heal off. Oh, and saves you from literally being oneshot by Chromaggus.
