warrior levelling questions

warrior levelling questions

by Qexugir » Sat Apr 18, 2015 10:21 pm

After having experimented with various classes, I've opted for my tried and true mainstay, a warrior. But I've gotten confusing advice ingame about levelling a warrior.

1. People can't seem to agree whether to level a warrior as Fury or as Prot. At low levels I've found that Prot has significantly better survivability, but maybe I'm missing something.

2. In terms of weapons one guy told me "the slower the weapon is the better." That makes no sense to me as top-end damage is what should count, not speed--unless this guy meant that the top-end-damage warrior weapons automatically have the slowest speed, which isn't true. But even here I've found that, at low levels, using a shield and a fast weapon and being able to get my licks in many times in a shorter amount of time is better for levelling than taking one mighty swing with a two-hander in a longer period of time.

3. Some Vanilla warrior skills seem to be detrimental to levelling. At low levels Charge is of limited usefulness, Rend is pretty much worthless, and Thunder Clap just chews up rage and accidentally aggroes yellow mobs without offering much in return.

What are people's thoughts on these things?

1 Lvling a warrior is hard in vanilla compared to other classes.
- fury enrage sit n go 25 % dmg increase uptime 100%
- i choose a fast 2 hander, good rage gain and less miss chance
- Flurry also helps getting mobs down faster
- Also fury aoe slow talent can save you quite good:-)

Prot is survivalability but for lvling solo i wouldnt go further then last stand.

2 Choose high end weapon dmg over speed if u want but for me speed was also important for rage gain.
For example i had 2 fast weapons switched, charged got fast rage, sit down for enrage buff, swop to 2 hander and spam cleave and heroic strike. When out of rage swap again:-)

And last as u figured out some abilitys are not worth wasting rage for, dont use them.

1. Fury is the best spec to lvl as up to lvl40 at which point arms becomes about equal. Prot is the worst spec to lvl as because of its low dmg output meaning you'll be very slow killing mobs. Also, you can tank all and any 5man-dungeon up to, and at lvl60 as fury and arms.

2. Weapons of choice is more open, normaly it's basically take which ever weapon is best for you at the given moment. However, the Dualwield penalty cripples fury very badly when lvling meaning 2h fury or 2h arms is your best bet up to lvl60 (again, unless you manage to find some very powerful 1handers). Whirlwind axe will last you from lvl30 to lvl50. The reason one would argue for using a very slow 2h would indeed be going for higher top damage as several warrior abilities relies on high top damage, such as Overpower.

If you're choosing to level as 2h Fury, opt for a fast 2h with high strength/AP. Weapon damage only matters so much as arms, wheras the rage gain is beneficial more so with fast weapon as fury.

2 posts above this one is otherwise spot on, as far as warr lvling is concerned.

So I'm guessing Fury is the best levelling spec and you can still use a 2H weapon as Fury.

A few other questions:

1) In Vanilla do you choose a Fury spec merely by selecting a Fury talent at level 10 or do you have to get special Fury training?

2) Does the best type of weapon to use depend on toon race? So a human would use a 2H sword, a dwarf would use a 2H mace, etc.? Or is it just a matter of using whatever type of weapon has the best damage and speed stats?

1. No special fury training. Just put talent points in fury tree. Ofcourse you still need to buy the talent upgrades from trainers though regardless of what spec you choose. Some talents you can alltogether ignore to upgrade since you wont ever use them. Those are Rend and Slam. They are a waste of rage and waste of money.
Here's a good lvling 2h-fury spec (note that bloodcraze is a total waste in a raid-spec, this is soley for lvling):

2. When lvling weapon racials makes no difference at all but at lvl60 raiding they instead make a huge difference. This means if you plan to raid as fury your only sensible choices are human or orc because they are the only races that have racial bonuses towards specific weapons. Humans for Swords and Maces and Orcs for axes.

How is charge a bad talent?

Rend is best damage per rage, and helps when they are close to execute but not quite there. Doesnt consume white hit.

Thunderclap is situational. Fighting a fast attacking duel wield mob, it is useful. But only at start, similar to rend. The time is short on it till higher ranks of it. Or use it when you got 2-3 mobs, and stance dance from arms to fury for a combo of sweeping strickes/ Whirlwind, if u r gonna lose rage from stance dance, use it before hand.

Only 1 move is useless for warrior till raiding, that is Slam. Warrior is a situational class.
