Why so many warriors?

Warriors are pretty painful to level and at end game, require good gear to be good dps'ers or pvp'ers.

Most of the Warriors I speak to when trying to form a group for 5 mans also avoid tanking...

It's funny, because after most of the instances people praise me for being a good tank. I swear i dont do anything just spam sunder armor from the little rage i usually have. I asked some of them, why would I be a good tank? And they tell stories about tanks not even knowing about threat and such things, and think that a tank is just a dps with shield. So it's funny that people still don't know these after so many years. Oh and I didn't mean to praise my tanking skills with this post, just explain that people usually avoid tanking probably because they suck, or they sucked and the group hated them for it.

That last part you said can have a huge effect on warriors deciding not to tank. Years ago when I first played the game I was a warrior because I just like being a badass in big armor wielding big weapons, I knew nothing of how the game worked or about tanking or any of that. So, when I started doing dungeons for the first time people would just assume that I would tank and I tried it out. Some people were nice and would bear with me and we would do ok. But others were complete assholes about it. Thus, for quite some time I avoided tanking like the plague...because it felt a lot like a plague to me at the time. Nobody wants to be given grief when trying to enjoy a game. The tank has a lot of responsibility and if you don't know how to do it correctly (and even if you do know how to do it correctly) it can be difficult - also depending on if the dps classes know how threat works because sometimes they can just start nuking the hell out of things before you get a chance to acquire enough threat.

Tanking is a huge responsibility, and thus a large portion of players will shy away from it. However, it is also very rewarding as it will basically put together a group in what ever composition you want, and tanks are often showered with loot from all over.

It's the cool, manly class of WoW. It appeals to a lot of players, most of them casuals who never really do much more than hit level 60. Warriors aren't that over-represented in top raid guilds and serious PvP (rank 8+).

I can agree with a lot of the points made in this thread but still it's funny how nobody has mentioned my favourite part of playing a warrior and that is mobility. There's nothing more satisfying than charging in the fray and shortly after intercepting the other way. :)

And when those are out of the way, you are chain cc'd until you die : )

Basically i'm wondering why are warriors the most populated class on both sides.
Can be for tanking, but half the warriors try to avoid it as if it is a plague of a sort.I've even seen warriors spamming " LF tank" for 5 man instances.

Is it because they are good in PvP?You can only do well if you are fed with gear, but so can any other class.Besides even then you depend on healers to do your job well. Why play a class that needs a babysitter to reach its full potential?

I also heard they are great dps class again-if fed with gear, but until that tier of content you still have to do mostly...tanking which returns me to my first point of avoiding tank duties.

Lastly if someone bothers to reply(many threads hanging)it would be really amusing to see some stuff of the like"Warrior is way of life" and so on.

So just curious.Cheers! as they say

Is a good question really since they are bad with no gear and the most difficult class to level and not great at solo pvp against decent players.

However here is why i think me and many others play warriors.

#1 Tanking and group making abuse (in your point but whatever). Pretty much as the most underplayed roll i can make the group to suite my needs. I will never let another warrior in my group unless i get them to pass on every single piece of gear that i need. Sure it's a bit tough with rings/trinkets but for plate it's pretty much 100% uncontested. Also the only class that can really tank, sure paladins and druids aren't terrible for dungeons, but they do not compete with a good warrior.

#2 The lows are low but the highs are mountain peaks. Sure most of the time your not critting and having a mage do more damage to you spamming arcane explosion while you miss your basic attacks, but when you get even a little bit lucky with RNG and crit 2 times in a row, you feel like a beast who just got some 100-40 in a global cooldown.

#3 A class which benefits the most from other players. Quite a few people roll the warrior because they intend on grouping up a lot. Suddenly you become the wreaking ball in any pvp gank squad which is really fun.

#4 Mobility is fun. I can't be the only one who just loves ping-ponging in pvp.

#5 Warriors are the only class with an decently engaging dps rotation. While it may not compare to retail, managing Bloodthirst, whirlwind, Heroic strike and dancing into overpowers is enough to really feel quite engaged. It's a bit of a step up from weaving aimed shot and multi shot through autoshot, or keeping slice and dice up while spamming sinister strike or backstab, or just spamming frostbolt.

#6 The warrior is the most rewarding class in the game if you stick with it. Every upgrade you can feel unlike other classes, just 1 % hit rating on a warrior feels different overall and i truely believe that this simple fact is why they are the most popular class. The different between a fresh 60 mage and a BWL mage is that frost bolt crits a little more, does 2x more damage and you have more mana. The difference between a fresh 60 warrior and a BWL BiS dps warrior is that you have about 4 or more times the rage, you are able to use bloodthirst and whirlwind on cooldown and instead of being rage starved you are started to struggle to spend the amount of rage you get. Your dps is also like 4x higher.

In vanilla, Warrior is essentially two different classes, yet if you cut the warrior population in half it'd be even less than other classes. Sure, some classes like Druid/Paladin/Shaman get very different spec trees but usually only one of them is viable as a main spec at level 60.

That said, I think any Fury warrior who doesn't keep a set of tanking gear for instances is just being lazy. This server is my first time playing WoW, and as a Fury warrior I've main tanked every dungeon in the game except for UBRS. I can understand not wanting to tank since it's a very active role and it can be a bit stressful and tiring after awhile.
