What spells are not worth getting as you level?

What spells are not worth getting as you level?

by LeonusStarwalker » Sat Jun 13, 2015 7:41 am

I'm trying to save a bit of money where I can as I level, so are there any spells that are just flat out useless to buy? I've been putting off taking some CC abilities like Disarm and ranking up Hamstring and Shield Bash, and I heard that Slam is garbage but I haven't gotten high enough to get it yet either way.

rend above rank 1, thunderclap above rank 2(1), slam at all.
I don't remember anymore of completely useless things.(rend is completely useless but the dmg at low lvl is justifiable, and why TC rank 2? same reasons as rend, attack slow is not getting scaled:<)

If you can time your slams after your own and your enemies auto attack it's viable to use, but then again you also need to generate shit loads of rage to warrant using it

There are swing timer addons available which certainly helps.

The rage cost per damage is a lot less than HS. If bt/ms and ww are on cd what would you do with excess rage?

And is using both bt/ms and ww on cd and having excess rage really a shitload?

Cast Pushback is bugged though(for all classes), it is only supposed to push back -0.5 but currently it just completely resets the cast to 0.1. So even if you are at 1.4 or 0.9(specced), if you get hit it goes to 0.1 instead of 0.9 or 0.4.

I admit I did not know that, that might be detrimental to the usefulness...

Mocking blow... doesn't seem necessary to get new ranks of it while leveling.
Nobody wants to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli, but I did and I'm ashamed of my self.

Ok so first you need enough rage income to follow up your slam with ms/ww, then you also don't want to setback either of those abilities by a global which could lead to a dps loss considering that the extra rage can be used for a big execute at 20%. Btw this kind of rage income while levelling is only possible with 4 mobs on you so if we are to proceed we can only consider a situation where all 4 mob swings are avoided for the duration of the cast and then the only time you would use slam over cleave is if the keybind suddenly stopped working.

For the sake of discussion, let's say that all of the above is met. So now while your trying to haphazardly fix your keyboard you also have to time your slam cast within this incredibly small time window and risk doing potentially no damage for the next couple seconds and then resetting your swing timer on top of that.

Of course slam sees some use before level 40, however you still have to time it directly after both your own melee swing and the mobs attack as well. So unless you're doing dps in a 40man raid with a 2hander for some weird reason, slam is a pretty useless ability.
