TPS weapons

TPS weapons

by snowtime » Thu Jul 09, 2015 6:34 am

While not really an issue in MC, i'd like to get a better idea of the best TPS weapons for BWL and above raids. While the 1.3 weapon speed does hold a lot of weight due to HS i'm going to assume that the weapons dps does at some point start to mater.

Ignoring TF, does alcor's remain #1 TPS weapon throughout the expansion? And how does finkles skinner hold up with TPS. This is assuming that we are rage capped

If anyone has a list i'd appreciate it

Assuming threat value of heroicstrike is the same here that it is on Emerald Dream (Feenix). The list of weapons going by TPS value would (very roughly) look like this:

1. Thunderfury.
2. The Hungering Cold.
3. The Widows Remorse
4. Alcor's Sunrazor.
5. Finkle's Skinner.
6. ZG caster dagger/MC Caster dagger.

Now, this is a very rough approximation, and there may be some fault to it. Alcor's value is somewhat diminished through MC/BWL due to the proc not adding anything on Fire resistant bosses (though the speed is its main allure). TFs value is somewhat diminished in AQ40 with Nature resistant mobs and bosses but is still likely better than Alcor's.

TL;DR. TF wont be beaten by any weapon in vanilla. Any tank that cant get TF will be using Alcor's far into Naxx before upgrading.

Does this list hold for human warriors, with the extra weapon skill?

Yes, it holds for all races. The main reason for this is that in 40man raiding you will be rage-capped most of the time meaning you can always have HeroicStrike queued up. HeroicStrike as you may know converts your white hit into a yellow hit thus pushing glancing blows off the hit-table, and by extension you wont reap any benefit from the extra weapon skill your race provides.

What about Felstriker? the proc rate is decent when using it as a mainhand ( plus works awesome with impale )

The proc is hard to model into DPS or TPS. That said, it is probably a fair choice aswell. The fact remains that a 1.3 speed dagger is still 30% faster than felstriker, meaning 30% more HeroicStrikes.

Nice list, but Widows remorse doesn't beat any of the higher lvl 1.30 speed weapons (Julies, venoxis dagger, Finkles, Alcors) and places just under Eskhands claw. Hungering Cold doesn't actually beat Alcors in theory when you have a perfect 100% heroic strike spam. It is however superior in every other aspect.

Sounds about right. I also didnt take into consideration improved HS from AQ20 books which should increase the power of 1.3 daggers even more. I suppose Widows remorse would be among the bottom 10-15 top weapons maybe?

You're forgetting that weapon skill will give hit aswell. 5% + (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill)*.1% formula is whats used to calculate your miss chance against a target when the different in your weapon skill and targets defense skill is less than or equal to 10. In the case of human warriors who have 305 sword/mace skill attacking a boss with 315 defense using a sword/mace will actually decrease your chance to miss by 2% which means using sword/mace against a boss gives you 2% more hit as human warrior. Although, this won't change the rankings of weapons significantly but it's noteworthy.
