attack speed or str?

by Blackpig » Mon Sep 28, 2015 1:49 pm

what i am wondering is that i have seen good geared warriors and biz lists where they have attackspeed enchants on head and legs. but then i have also seen ones with the 8+ str.

what is the best? (we are ofc talking Fury PvE)

At current gearing they are almost exactly equal. 8str (may) be slightly better for alliance due to BoK while for Horde its the opposite. However, in BWL-bis and forward, 1% speed is better for both Horde and Alliance.

percentage-stats scale up with your gear
number-stats are flat and only scales with buffs like BoK/Spirit of Zandalar.

8 str isnt better for alli. BoK is 10%increase of stats. So it gets a 0.8 str increase. Blizz drops all remainders, so by itself you get 0 str increase from the buff. If your str is 300 or 301, there is no increase on 8 str from bok. If you have 302-309 you get a 1 str increase from BoK.

I'd actually like to see the facts on this.

These will be very rough calculations. lets say 200dps of your total dps is white damage and you use 1% haste enchants on head, legs and gloves, that amounts to a grand total of 3% weapon speed increase, and thus 3% increase of white damage.

HASTE:
200*1.03=206dps
(A net increase of 6dps yielded by the enchants). This is not counting heroic strikes and cleave which are also affected by the haste so the real number is higher.

STRENGTH:
8+8+7=23 str
23*2=46 AP
46/14=3.285714285714286 dps
(A net increase of 3.28 dps yielded by the enchants). This is not counting Bloodthirst which accounts for maybe 15% of your total damage.

Conclusion: Again, these are very rough, theoretical calculations. My main point is though that strenght, as explained in an earlier post is a static stat that doesnt scale with gear but only a few buffs like BoK and Spirit of the Zandalari. 200 white dps will also be even higher in later content meaning the net dps increase by Haste will scale up with AQ and Naxx gear.

(This can also be seen in the spreadsheet I have posted in a separate thread. At current content the difference between haste and str is very small but it increases with better gear).

EDIT: 200 white dps may be a bit high, even with full raid buffs in current content. If we scale-back a bit and say 100 white dps instead the numbers both align around 3dps increase for both enchants. My point still stands though as your white dps increases with gear, as does the haste increase scale up while the str remain static.
