Depends on what you want to do ultimately and "when" you want to do it. I feel that's important to stress because a lot of people don't realize rogues actually can taper off post AQ-40 in comparison to other classes like Fury Warrior in both PvE and PvP.
Rogues are known for being really strong in Vanilla, borderline broken even though a lot of this I feel is due to the Roguecraft stigma which while being very valid at the time, isn't nearly as valid anymore. This is not to say rogues are weak by any stretch, just we don't have as much of an edge against the rest anymore as the "metagame" has gotten better. Rogues would feel invincible vs clickers and keyboard turners, now that people are getting better we're not as ridiculous if we slip up even once. In PvP it's that class everyone sees the best of and is like "Wow, I want to be that guy!" then when they try to mimic it get extremely frustrated. I don't blame them, the rogue class has a lot of subtle things people neglect which makes it an annoying class to master, especially if you juggle retail WoW where you're used to on demand energy instead of the system present in Vanilla.
When it comes to raiding, it's simple, rogues are one of the best classes early, solid mid and late but we don't maintain the commanding lead we usually do early on. Just tonight in my Molten Core we ran with seven rogues, of the top 10 damage slots the rogues were there, top 5 were rogues entirely. Keep in mind this is on the PvE server.
Ultimately I welcome any willing to play rogue to play rogue as a brother. Though very little respect for FOTM rerollers or Roguecraft/Grim junkies because those types tend to quit when they realize it isn't Total Annihilation every fight. The class will actually piss you off a great deal in the learning process as you begin to feel your energy bar, or how to handle a lot of situations in PvP. Don't get me wrong, I love those videos even to this day but it's sad to see so many on a class reroll when it's no longer absurdly broken. Bit of advice though is early on, avoid playing a rogue if you want a guaranteed raid slot unless you do it fast. Rogues are dime a dozen now, rare as hell around Naxx.
