So you think an ability that is spammable, drains 1100 mana, and is able to be cast on multiple targets should give you mana...why? Find a video that corroborates your evidence. Id say I'd wait but I know you won't find one

Viper Sting never gave the hunter mana.

Your qoute isnt even related to viper sting its about spells in general that would give you mana from draining it. Viper Sting never did that.

Just because the word "drain" is in the tooltip doenst mean you'll get anything.

Drain could simply mean that it simply consumes away the mana.

It's on Viper Sting's page.

And no, Drain mechanics means what your enemy loses you gain. It's the same for Drain Soul, Drain Mana, Drain Life.

List of Mana Drain Spells:

Mana transfers (removed mana given to player)
-Drain Mana

Mana burns (removed mana converted to damage)
-Mana Burn

Pure mana drains (mana is lost)
-Viper Sting

Also, see "The complete history of hunter stings" on YouTube.

http://youtu.be/qaKUhhSrfa8

@ 3:07 - Viper sting only gave mana in Wrath; before it just drained it.

===

Additionally, from old wowwiki (TBC).

http://www.wowwiki.com/Viper_Sting?oldid=1344317

"Although the game description says "Drain", it does not transfer mana to the caster."

===

Finally, a PvP video from retail Nov 2006. From 4:11-4:19, a hunter uses viper sting on a mage and gains 0 mana despite a full 8 second duration. Note the combat log during viper sting.

There were no mana-returning abilities for hunters in vanilla. Feign, trap, and drink.
