Lupos damage bugged?

I tamed lupos. He is now lvl 27 wolf doing 48-62 shadow damage (2seconds attack speed).
When he hits, he hits a lvl 25 mob, he does 35-44 damage. and crits for 74 (which means 37 x2 )
Why so little damage? is this damage reduced by armor?
