Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

Hi everyone. I'm wondering if somebody can explain how exactly to "learn" other pet abilities such as Claw, Bite, etc. etc.
I understand you have to tame a certain critter that has said ability (I'm using wayback machine petopia for that), but how exactly/what exactly do you have to do to learn the ability the pet has, so that you can teach it to other pets?
I've tried feeding the pet until its happy, and fighting with it. Doesn't seem to work.
To clarify, I'm a level 26 hunter trying to learn rank 4 bite from a forest crawler in hillsbrad. Any suggestions?

Depending on what level you are, you may or may not have Beast Lore (learned at lvl 24). This tool allows you to find out what skills certain beasts have. The old Petopia sites have some information that isn't always accurate given the Patch Nostalrius currently has implemented but for the most part, it's fairly accurate.

Look at the sticked first thread for How to Hunter Pet, it's the top post on the Hunter Board. Inside has links included with the abilities from level to specific ability.
