First hunter problem/questions

Hi I started my first hunter on vanilla so I don't know much about that class. I have read a little something that hunter is easy to learn but very hard if you want to play good. People said hunter has lowest dps on vanilla and also his pet damage is not high. Tbh I don't really care about that cuz there is a bigger problem with:
I heard there is a problem with autoshot or sth like that? My english is not good enough so I don't know what's going on with it. I only noticed (during several days of leveling my hunter) that my autoshot is really slow you must stop every time and sometimes it cancels itself and I must press autoshot button again etc. I don't know how long should I wait and when it's ready (no timer or bar), difficult to explain but I played hunter on wotlk and it was different, everything was "normal" and I didn't have to put autoshot on my actionbar and I could also see when exactly it will fire. I played on cata too but hunter was too easy there, you could shot in every moment while jumping or shooting back etc. But on vanilla it sometimes cancels my autoshot (maybe if target is close it switches to melee) I don't know when it is enabled and when disabled. It should automatically shoot when ppm the target and automatically hit with mele weapon when in close that how it is on wotlk I guess and I can't get used to this. Sometimes when there is chaos, many targets in close and range etc. I lose autoshot and a lot of time to enable it again, don't know why it happens.
Probably you don't understand a shit of what I wrote here but I would be very grateful if you could tell me some most important things that I should know. I should use some addons and scripts too I guess but heard they don't work on Nostalrius. I've read all pages in hunter section and people saying it's hard, weak or not worth to play here. Idk what to think about that but I'd like to play that class however problem with autoshot and moving in fights is painful. Before I played almost always melee class, I didn't have to put autoattack on my action bar just ppm but with hunter it doesn't work cuz he wants to fight with melee weapon. Hope you can help me, thanks for any tips in advance.
