Hunter pet combat

Why was hunter pet and putting the player into combat changed? It used to be you would only go into combat if your pet attacked something, but as of last week it seems that if my pet is hit in any way I'm immediately placed into combat. Was this change intentional, because it's highly annoying. It's basically broken combat trapping if your pet has any agro whatsoever. Completely ruins pvp as well.
