Starting a hunter character and have some questions.

I'm rolling a hunter as an alt on alliance side and I had a couple of questions about end-game raiding.
Are hunters top of the meters, middle of the pack, or bottom?
Can a skilled hunter reach top 5 or 10 of the meters?
Also how sought after are hunters for end game raiding? Is there an over abundance of hunters and nobody wants them or are there very little and everyone wants one, or is it just average?
Thank you for your answers

Unfortunately, hunter's are lower tiered as raid dps. I've yet to see one even come close to top with the few guilds I've raided with between alts. They bring a good amount to the table with Trueshot Aura and Tranq Shot though. If you really want to top charts, roll a rogue, mage or fury warrior.
Hunter's excel at farming, soloing and speedruns. I can tell you this though, don't play a class just to do the most raid dps. Raids are relatively easy, especially ten year old content. I find it's more fun in between raids as a hunter. PvP is awesome, and very controllable with viper sting and scatter traps. Farming is a breeze, easier than any other class. Damage is still VERY possible, with mediocre gear.
In full blues, my hunter could 2k+ aimed shot clothies, which is 80%+ of their health. It's a very satisfying class to play.

They're not very good raid DPS, no, but they're not too bad. And yeah, they bring some raid utility with Trueshot Aura, and the ability to dispel enrage/frenzy effects.
They're the absolute best farming class, though. You can solo instances and vendor blues from them, grind mobs out in the world, farm herb/mining, etc...Hunters can do it all.
Not too bad at PVP either. Viper Sting wrecks casters and you can kite the fuck out of most melees, and/or ice block 'em if they get too close.
