Pet follow distance

Why does my pet follow so far behind? I mean it's so bad it's in another time zone. It's like pulling an aggro train the size of a large river behind you. Is this 'blizzlike' or is this a bug? I can't say I ever remembered this on retail, but then i didn't play hunter in vanilla I don't think. If it's a bug is there any idea when it might be fixed?

How bad is bad? 5 meters? 10? Beyond normal Hunter ranged shooting range?
Pet pathing/speed/following has always been an issue for blizzard in WoW.
Your pet will lag behind to a certain degree - using fast run or a mount makes it lag behind further, as does your latency and especially if the pet is a cat with Prowl enabled.
For me on a 60% speed mount, with a non-prowl pet, 30% pathfinding talent + 350ms latency = Pet behind me on average by 5-10 meters.

Well, that depends. 20-25 ish yards normally. I've noticed that the pet always moves at my speed, but never faster, meaning he'll never catch up. AotC he moves the same speed I do, but still the same distance behind. If something slows him down, such as a mob stunning him, he'll never catch up, and will travel behind me dozens of yards from me unless I stop and let him catch up. Haven't gotten a mount yet so don't know how that'll work.
Basically, he always moves the same speed I do, I know that there was something back in the day that hunters would look for pets with a particular chase speed, but not sure if that just had something to do with how well they would chase a moving target (which so far, mine will only ever chase a moving target at regular run distance, meaning they'll never catch it unless it stops or I slow it) or if it had something to do with how close their pet would stay to them while running.
