Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

Howdy

Please note this is for the upcoming Patch 1.11. It will still be useful now but there might be some items not existing yet

This is a guide that I hope will help alot of hunters .

Raiding in vanilla WoW on retail was pretty much the blind leading the blind . Sure some hunters were playing good and helping the raid/ guild alot but It wasnt until a horde hunter called Lactose started breaking down the hunter mechanics

Figuring out DPS , Crit chance , Pet damage , BiS gear and weapons and so on . We might still be low sometimes on DPS meters but after Lactose we were more then just kite and tranq bots.

Lactose along with hunters like Rangerr and Dysphoria showed what the class could do and 10 years later is why I still play hunter as my main .

This is the first version of the guide , if there are mistakes please help me to fix them and Im sure in the end
we will have something we can use for raiders and new players alike

( if somebody wants to help me figure out the exact % Crit on weapons with enchants let me know s )

A Correct shooting rotation is needed to max out dmg

With Ashjre'thul which I had for years on Retail and Feenix

Auto , Aimed , Auto , Auto , Multi , Auto , Aimed , Aimed , Auto , Auto , Multi , Auto , Aimed ( See the pattern ? )

Now since I raided with wolfs mostly I had howl in a Aimed / Howl Macro , Boosting the Aimed shot , Pets next attack and Melees around there

The rotation with Rhok'delar / SoulString will look abit diff rent and I will update it when I get the bow on Nostalrius

I never had to pleasure to try the Slavemaker out but since its abit faster then Ashjre'thul the rotation changes abit there as well

Rotations can get abit tricky since its always best to pop Rapid Fire in the start of a fight so there is a chance to get it back during the fight . Add berserk and trinkets into the equation and it gets abit harder , and you will have improved aspect of the hawk messing with the
rotation as well . Practice is the key


End Game 20/31/00 MM/BM ( Max DMG against bosses where you can have a pet )

This is for max DMG , Pet stays up and does alot of DMG while you can max out your own DMG with MM . And you are buffing your melee group with TSA. Scatter shot to randomly save you or a healer in dungeon or raid . You can switch the 2 points in improved CS to either 1 point in HM and 1 point in SS

End Game 18/34/00 MM/BM (For the hunter with lowest DMG/worst gear) Not valid atm cause of debuff slots

This is to have HM up all time on bosses and boost the other ranged DMG . Hunter will do abit less DMG but will help everyone ells , TSA to help melee

End Game 0/21/30 SV/MM ( For hunters with over 450 Agi . Its fun to play but you dont buff with TSA and might do less DPS then the BM Build nice crits though =p )

Start of raiding 02/31/18 MM/SV by Kazydatiger

"The reason in the 3/5 parry is that you want alot of avoidance and stamina windclip and entrapment are useless in PvE If you pop Deterrence+AoM and the 13% parry you will have around 90% ish avoidance and you can tank a boss for a couple of seconds in case of a wipe or if you volley a horde of mobs you have to stay alive. The reason for the Savage Strikes 2/2 is that then a mob passing by your melee range its a big chance for you to crit him for 800ish raptor strike so its adds dmg and thats good for you."

This build will give you enough hit% to tranq , boost in health . More trap effects for BWL and Boost A malee with TSA , Deterrence is there to not die if you pull aggro from trash mob or tank boss on that 1% where dots might kill him

Pets

This is abit tricky , depending on server and patch

The best pets usually in Vanilla were:

Lupos does shadow dmg , one of the highest dps pets in the game
Snarler has high resistance which makes him stay up longer in boss fights
Broken Tooth has fast attack speed and is good for pvp
As for raptors WC Raptor had the fastest dps on the feenix server for along time , ZG Raptor and Takk were 2 other good raptors

Make sure to keep loyalty and happiness at max all the time, They deal more DMG that way. Dont forget to make sure the rest of raids knows to buff the pets aswell . Talk to the class leaders cause the pets need the buffs . And feel free to use scrolls on them as well

Make sure to add pet DMG into your own DMG on DMG/DPSMeters

For Lupos and Snarler I would max out ressistence and then go max rank Bite, Furious Howl and then Stamina Howl will also boost pet DMG , Your Aimed Shot and Malee DPS
For the Raptors Max resistance then max Bite, Claw and then what ever you can put in Stamina

You can always re spec them later , For some fights its better if they do less DPS and stay up the whole fight ( More dmg in the end ) then if they just die right away . And since they shouldnt take direct DMG from boss besides area effects amour is useless

I always thought even though its end game raiding a hunter should be able to choose his own pet. But if you want to max out dps... and Ill update this later as the patches and server changes . Not sure whats going on here yet

Used to be the best pet on WSG Feenix , High attack speed combined with Claw and Bite

On Feenix Warsong the fast attack speed , which I think was higher then I state here combined with Bite and Claw made Him the best dps pet for raiding

Really useful info. Thanks for bringing it forth, a lot of hunters will surely benefit from this. The only thing i'm questioning for now, is the BIS list. Quite a lot of it seems to be gear obtained from DM and e.g. the Bloodsoul Shoulders which were added in patch 1.7.0. Ofc the list will be very useful as the server progress'. But for now, an alternative BIS list is needed. Maybe you could include This BIS list provided by "DeeMarie".
