Holy/discipline build for levelling

Good points. The ISW:P just makes it longer, which probably isn't useful for anything else but elites and instance bosses and Silent Resolve, while somewhat useful in instances, might only be of practical use in raids.

Martyrdom might be a better choice for those OH SHIT clusterfucks, while improved PW:F apparently only gives a very small bonus, so it's a toss-up which you select to get enough points in Disc to get Meditation and Inner Focus.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I just don't see much sense in it is all.

No sweat man, it's more of a flavor thing of playing "Light Side" :P I know that shadow priests don't go Shadowform until level 40 in vanilla and they are quite able to handle healing up to that point at least, if not well through to end game content. I'm not looking for the uber min/max talent tree to squeeze out every last bit of utility out of them but to have some discussion and feedback over a sensible holy/disc build, if that makes sense.

Spirit gear is generally cheap as hell and easy to obtain leveling, and it scales very well with priests in vanilla.

With this build, Spirit converts to + healing and + spell damage and you get a large spirit buff to increase in building your static spirit stat.

Spirit tap then goes on to amplify your spirit by +100% while also regennerating (50+15%) (spirit tap+ meditation) manaregen through casting, this equates to you gaining more mana/spirit tick while chaining kills than you do out of combat.

This build was the one I used for most multi-purpose stuff. When TBC launched and added the shadow instant nuke for sniping killshots i was able to sustain holy nova spam in several encounters in Karazan with massive spirit essentially spamming group heals (that dont generate agro) while aoeing large numbers of trash waves.

I generally respecced to drop Spirit Tap and put 5 more into holy on progression day, which occurred once every raid cycle then back to this tri-build since the guild always wanted 1 priest to spec for the spirit buff anyways.

You can kill non-stop with it, and its considerably more durable than you may think. Speccing to build full healing spirit priest is pretty much just dropping spirit tap and blessed recovery for more holy:

Well, I am level 22 now and can give few insights on my build.

First 5 points went into Spirit Tap because I didn't have a wand at level 10 and I figured it'll take few levels more to get a decent wand anyway. This has helped quite a lot when soloing but it procs very rarely in dungeons.

Second batch of 5 points went into Wand Specialization and it certainly made a difference, though I got lucky and got very nice wands as well around the same time.

Then I went for Healing Focus as I was running in Deadmines and avoiding pushback became relevant. Now I'm investing into improved Power Word: Shield as that's always useful.

So my recommendation is definitely to put first points in Spirit Tap and then to Wands, no matter what the rest of your build looks like.

It's always seemed that Holy/Smite spec was superior for vanilla leveling until about 40ish

Hello guys,

I link my "custom" build for leveling is really ballsy because i leveling with a warrior and a rogue so i think it to destroy people rapidly but keep my mate alive.

Here is it : http://www.wowprovider.com/?talent=1121 ... 05015201h0

I go 14 point in shadow to assist in pvp and play aggressive against alliance guys we met :)
And Holy+Disci talent to keep us alive.

I really think it because i play with 2 dps nevertheless your holy/disci build is great :)

I've now hit 50, so few more words of experience:

1) Focused Casting is pretty much useless in instances. Yes, even in those OH SHIT moments, because if you're getting critted by elites, you're either going to die in few seconds or the party is fucked anyway. However, while soloing it is quite useful when you accidentally pull too many mobs, your PWS is on cooldown and HP bar is plummeting. For same reason, Healing Focus is useful for keeping you alive. I've lost count how many times those two talents have saved my life. So for levelling, Martyrdom beats IPWF, imho.

2) Inner Focus and Meditation are both very useful in instances and when soloing, probably everyone agrees.

3) Once I got 5 points in Holy Specialization and 2 points in Searing Light, I saw a very nice increase in my damage output. Obviously my DPS is still quite weak, but I can keep killing mob after mob after mob after mob and killing each one doesn't take too long (though enviously I watch mages kill their mobs with 2 fireballs)

4) Holy Nova has come useful in Uldaman, Maraudon and Sunken Temple, as all three instances have situations where a bunch of non-elite mobs swarm the party. Keeps everyone alive and does some damage. Holy Reach helps there as well. Funnily, I've been the puller in some instance runs thanks to the extra distance that Holy Reach gives me, when there hasn't been a hunter or a mage present. But I haven't used Holy Nova while soloing and the extra range of Holy Reach isn't that useful when you're alone either. Still, twice I've finished off a Hordie trying to run away thanks to that range, so... ;)

So while switching to Shadow at 40 makes for more efficient levelling, at least damage out-put wise, remaining with the talents that I linked to in the OP is also viable. Plus, I've made tons of friends thanks to good healing in instances, so finding groups is very easy. Or maybe that's just the high population on the server

The ability to turn spirit into spellpower through tap+guidance is strong as hell. Especially in this patch where you cant really get any spell power gear at all. Right now my 46 priest is at 240 spellpower when tap is up, and considering Smites coeff compared to MB or MF, it's crazy good.

Here's a grinding video of me testing this back in retail vanilla days (2006ish).
http://bit.ly/1IN7zPA

With paladin support spells, you'll top dps (3 times over) easily with this build too, since Crusader Judgement heavily boosts your holy spell damage and Sanctity Aura is always nice.

Only one thing to add:
Agility is very strong stat for priests pre 39 when you still don't have Spiritual Guidance, because it affects your wands crit rate. If you can get a friend to boost you for Gravestone Scepter at 18, you'll have a 36dps wand, considering talents (2hs at that lvl have 19 dps) with high critrate to carry you all the way to 30.

Hello, in advance sorry for my english, i'm french ;)

I liked a lot your post for Holy/Disc specialisation, that i used to play too. And i would ask you to help me to do an Holy/Disc tree, for my Dwarf Priest lvl 39, please.

I play on a French Client, so I have some dificulties to understand every english word about capacities and spells, that why i ask for your help.

My tree is this one : http://www.wowprovider.com/?talent=1121 ... 23205c3i5p

And i cant grind very well, i kill 3 mob and dont have any mana... But I Heal very well in instance.
I realy want to damage more to level up , and don't want to go Shadow spec.

Thank you a lot, for your help and time.
