Boomkin is +12% crit per raid.
Shadow priest is +15% damage per warlock. You usually have 4 warlocks in the raid, or more.
Do the math yourself.

Btw why would anyone use 4 debuff slots for SP? VE is a (mostly) useless threat generator.

Night elf Starshards seems pretty strong as a rotation filler?

Not sure if this person has made their priest or not (or even still playing) but back then on the Horde side Undead was the way to go if you wanted to be shadow. Their racials were by far the best for pvp and pve. I remember the days of stunning rogues with blackout simply by having my touch of weakness on lol.

I agree that Undead is by far the best race for PvP because of racial abilities (especially DP) and WotF, however, it's quite far from the best PvE racial for SP, that award goes to dwarf because of Fear Ward. You're simply never going to use DP in a raiding situation because it takes up a debuff slot and does very poor damage in comparison with other dots.

Uhhh...what?

SP does not use 2 debuffs, only 1.

And warlocks do not use corruption in raid, rofl...just shadowbolts.

3% crit for 4 people is not "12% crit", it's...3% crit for 4 people. I think overall, 15% damage > 3% crit.

If a shadow priest actually wants to do any dmg to the target or group healing, then it's 4 debuffs:

1 - Shadow Weaving
2 - Vampiric Embrace
3 - Shadow Word: Pain
4 - Mind Flay

Otherwise, the priest is only doing lol Mind Blast every ~5 seconds

That's not true at all. Warlocks will start using some dots when the debuff slots go up, sometimes you'll even see them use immolate on targets in fights with multiple targets such as Four Horsemen fight in Naxx 40.

Sadly Mind Flay counts as a debuff even when targets aren't being slowed, so it's Mind Flay + Shadow Weaving + Shadow Word: Pain, that makes it 3. As far as I know you won't be using Vampiric Embrace as it causes a ton of extra threat, something you already have from having to use Mind Blast in your rotation despite threat reduction.

that was later on in Vanilla when they upped the debuff slot limit from 8 to 16

yes, VE is optional as a debuff but if the shadow priest actually wants to do damage, then it's a minimum of 3 debuffs

Since when do people actually bring Spriest as a serious DPS, in raids?

Unlike Mage/Warlock, they have no way of restoring mana outside of potion/rune, so they OOM after maybe a minute and a half. And here on Nost, Mind Flay is bugged to often only give 2 ticks instead of 3, so that's 33% of their mind flay DPS disappearing because of a bug.

I was under the impression that Spriest was brought for Shadow Weaving, not actual DPS.

With enough gear they can - but with the current itemization on Nost probably not - although I don't have a priest here so I can't say 100%.

That being said, Ret is doing well DPS wise and when a Smite Priest is paired with him providing Judgement of the Crusader and Sanctity Aura, their combined damage is pretty good for only having to put up 1 debuff on the target.

Two debuffs if another Paladin judges Wisdom for max mana regen but this wold also help all of the other casters as well
