Holy/discipline build for levelling

Holy/discipline build for levelling

by Garfunkel » Tue Feb 24, 2015 10:51 pm

EDIT: Wowprovider went down, so I redid the talent build from memory - it might not be exactly what I used when I leveled up but most of it is correct: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#bVMhsZfxtcbbVZx
Note that it only goes to 56, the remaining points are up to you, and don't really matter.

Hello fellow priests. I was playing around with the old talent trees and figured that the one I linked above would be a decent build for levelling to 60 while healing instances and (hopefully) questing in parties, though obviously there will be times when I'd have to play solo.

My reasoning behind some of the choices in case you're interested:

-My first 5 points will go to wand specialization to help kill mobs slightly quicker with a wand as I've heard this is a good method of saving mana while questing plus it's something I'll be doing in instances while there's no need for healing.

-Points 6-8 will go to Improved Power Word: Shield to increase survivability.

-Points 9 and 10 to Improved Power Word: Fortitude to get more stamina plus I'm sure party members will love it.

-Point 11 I'll spend on Inner Focus as a free spell with increased critical chance sounds pretty sweet and points 12-14 will go to Meditation to help alleviate mana issues.

-Then I'll switch to Holy tree by getting Healing Focus and Improved Renew. Lesser chance of pushback should be very useful if a pull in an instance goes bad and a more efficient HoT is always useful. That's points 15-19.

-Points 20-24 will get me Divine Fury as quicker casting of both DPS and heals sounds fantastic.

-Inspiration (points 25-27) I took just for late game instance healing. I'm not so sure it's that useful as it procs only of critical heals and then only awards 25% more armour for 15 seconds.

-Holy Nova (point 28) would give me an aoe damage AND healing ability even if it comes with a high mana cost.

-Points 29-33 net me Holy Reach (more range!) and cheaper direct heals.

-Spiritual Guidance and Spiritual Healing are pretty obvious choices at the end of the Holy tree.

-Left over points I placed on Holy Specialization to get more crit chance (3 points) and Silent Resolve (5 points) to reduce my threat levels.

I didn't take Spirit of Redemption or Lightwell because I'm under the impression that both are very situational and not that useful. I'm considering of taking out the 3 points from Inspiration and putting them to Searing Light (2 points) and Holy Specialization (1 point) instead, to help my meagre DPS.

I'm also conflicted about Spirit Tap - I could put the 5 points from Silent Resolve to Spirit Tap instead (preferably very early in the game) and that would play nicely off with the Spiritual Guidance and Healing, plus tad more mana while levelling.

Bear in mind, I realize that for raiding, I'd have to redistribute my talent points anyway, so don't worry about that aspect.

Is this too "generalized" in that it tries to be both a good healer with a decent survivability and some improvements to DPS or am I just shooting myself in the foot here?

I would have gone Martyrdom and Searing light for leveling, imp fort gives like 150 more health at level 60 so its pretty average most guilds should really only get 1 priests specing it. I also put one point in Spirit of redemption, for those clutch victory's.

If you're planning on respeccing at 60 anyway, why not just level shadow? You won't have any problem healing 5 mans as shadow, and it's a LOT faster for leveling.

I wasn't planning to re-specc as soon as I hit 60 but only when required to do so for raiding, so I'm hoping that this build would get me healing in LBRS/UBRS/Scholo/Stratholme as well as lower instances - plus using all those holy spells would let me learn the class/spec/tree properly along the way.

The only reason you need to spec holy/disc to heal at 60 is to raid, assuming you don't intend on trying to solo heal UBRS. Shadow priests can heal every 5 man provided the group has even half a brain about them.

The only extra active spell you get as holy is holy nova, which is pretty terrible as far as spells go (except for the priest quest). You won't have enough +healing to downrank heals as a fresh, or nearly so, 60 either.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I just don't see much sense in it is all.

I'm going holy/disc for leveling. With Spirit tap+wand specializations I will be able to kill mobs really fast with almost no downtime + I will be able to heal dungeons better. I dont really have a build, but will make my own.
My rotation will be something like this: MB>shield>SW:P>wand.

Something like this? Get the Shadow talents first, then Discipline talents and fill out Holy later?

Would rather place the two points in Silent Resolve(Disc) in either improved PWF or even Martyrdom, the reduced amount of threat doesnt really show any effect while leveling.

I'm gonna do the same tree expect one thing, for leveling i'll dont take the "Silent resolve" for the threat neither the "Word Pain ", and put this 4 point on "MartyrDown" and "word fortitude"

http://www.wowprovider.com/Old.aspx?tal ... 005205002m

And it's not true, in Shadow spec we dont level up as fast as Holy/disc at all ^^ at least not until lvl 55 to 60.
