Just looking for a little information regarding Power Word Shield.

Does gear with +healing modify the amount absorbed by Power Word Shield?

Yes +Healing increases the damage shielded by PW:S but only by a TINY amount. We're talking really small numbers.

Example:
If I wear no gear my PW:S Shields for 1086.
If I wear +50 healing my PW:S Shields for 1089.
so +50 healing increased the damage shielded by 3.

Does anyone know the actual coefficient? Oldest mention of it that I can find is http://wowwiki.wikia.com/Spell_power_co ... did=552864

20% sound right?

Did some more testing.

It seems to be around 10%, maybe that's just what my addon thinks though... Could be all wrong..

Turns out my other test with +50 healing was wrong when I ran this test, at least it lined up nicely with my other results this time around!

Some other interesting things I found (These are from TBC/2.0 Patch so bear that in mind).

This website states that PW:S Scales 20% and mentions that it used to scale only 10%.

This post states it scales with 10% of spellpower in early TBC (December 2006)

That's all I can find for now!

Hi!

i have read somwhere that pws is very manainefficent and only used in panic situations, but all builds seem to ha 3 points in improwed pws? If its not in the standard rotation, when is it really wise using it, i was thinking of preshielding the tank about 10 sec before the pull so mana would be back when the fight starts?

You should almost never be using shields on a tank, unless they're a paladin.

Warrior/Druid get rage from being hit. If the damage is absorbed by PWS, they get no rage.

The reasoning for specing in Improved PW:S is that once you use it, having it be 15% bigger is great.

The times for using it is mainly:

To avoid interuptions on yourself, when getting attacked by minor mobs and you wanna save fade or if it is on cooldown.
To panic heal a tank when even 1.5s for Flash Heal doesn't feel safe.
To shield warlocks and mages before AoE'ing.
Pre-pull on tanks when they ask for it. (Often involving them doing something special where they will not be availible for healing for a few seconds, or big packs where the shield will be gone instantly anyway and rage will be virtually infinite. Avoid doing it without the tank asking for it first because of rage issues.)

I never said "don't use PWS ever"

I said "don't use it on tanks because they don't get rage from damage through shields".

I think he replied more to kraraz than you, opening up the reasoning behind what you said.

And yeah, you put the talent points to improve PWS because even though you don't use it all the time, when you DO use it, you really want it to be as powerful as possible.
