Shadow Priest PVP guide

Shadow Priest PVP guide

by subdue » Mon Jul 13, 2015 4:21 am

I've been googling like hell and coming up empty for a legit vanilla shadowpriest pvp guide. Coming up empty due to broken links or data not exactly matching up with the Nost 1.12 version. I have not rolled a spriest before so I mainly have these questions about PVP @ 60...

What are the stat importance rankings? (e.g. sp -> int -> stam -> ???)

Since there isn't too much burst damage, I assume a spriest dots and just tries to survive? What's your typical plan for caster/melee?

Any decent list of good pvp starter gear for new 60s?

Thanks for any help.

whatever gear has spell damage int and stam is good. u want enough stamina so u dont get wrecked by rogues or warriors instantly.

against casters try to use mana burn as much as possible while keeping yourself healed with pots/whipper root/desperate prayer. they will use fucktons of mana trying to kill you and will be oom very fast with you mana burning aswell.

if a mage counterspells mana burn then switch to healing and laugh at him as he tries to kill you.

i carry net o matic for vsing warriors and rogues, its pretty useful.

if rogue opens on you: trinket stun > fear > pop FAP > dot rogue to keep him out of stealth> pop rocket boots > mind flay/ mind blast > GG

rocket boots arent essential but i always carry FAP otherwise rogues will just stunlock you to death.

best plan is not to spend tons of mana trying to kill enemies with mind blast but take it slower, since you have heals. prioritize dots and mana burn vsing casters and dots and mind flay vsing melee. get mind blast off when u know you CAN.

i carry: mana pots, whipper root and dragons breath, demonic runes, swiftness potion, iron grenade, magic dust, FAP. i always try to keep this stuff with me for pvp.

against MAGES they will either counterspell you when you are casting shadow dmg meaning you WIN or if they are smart they will keep CS when you need to heal. i would say try to avoid doing: trinket poly > silence since they can just ice block then re poly and then you're fucked. either wait the poly out and spam shield ready for their burst. after initial burst they will come to you in melee range and use all their instant dmg spells so silence then. i think most mages here play elemental so try stay as far away from them as u can which is pretty hard, i usually lose to them if they dont suck.

get the skull of impending doom and equip it if you think you're going to fight a mage.

this is just from my experience of mostly world pvp so it might be quite wrong, if so somone correct me so i can learn too, hope it helped a bit though.

stam/int to a decent level then shadow power > spell power > Int > Stam > Crit > mp5 > Spirit.
Keep your dot and VE up and try keep your distance, if you're against a melee you're pretty much golden unless its a rogue and they get a lucky crit. Just kite, use MB whenever you get a chance and mind flay if mb is on cd and they're coming at you and you have distance.
If you really need to cast, cant fear and can kite a bit there's no harm spamming rank 1 shadow word:pain and hoping for a blackout stun.
Throw a dispell or 2 on them at the start and dispell any big temporary buffs they give themselves (shields).
Mind vision can be good against rogues if you can target them before they stealth, mind vision wont break when they stealth so you can throw a dot on them when they get in range and deny them the opener, which alot of rogues need to win.
Against mages, make sure you fakecast their counterspell.
You're a hybrid, so remember to heal, and dont wait till you're at 20% before you do, most people will be expecting that and will interrupt.
Shadow priests scale very well with gear. And engineering is the best profession! Just make sure you carry alot of grenades and mana potions!

TLDR- Keep dots rolling, melt faces.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm still working on getting better. The main issue is my lack of patients. I also did not spec 3/3 in shadow reach and I think that's hurting. Is imp mana burn necessary? I am thinking of re-spec to drop imp mana burn to max out shadow reach.

You should be able to max out both. You should only have 2points in improved mind blast maybe you have more?.

Yeah I do. I though maybe imp inner fire was a must have but after reading some, maybe not.
