I want to Play a Priest, But...

I have people telling me no one chooses them for raiding because of the debuff limit. I've been told to go Mage or Warlock instead.

Is this true? If I DPS as a Priest, will I have a bad time?

yes, priests in pve are for healing. warlocks in the raid will hate you for stealing their shadow dmg gear. What ive done is i heal for pve and respec to spriest for bg's/wpvp

Only if you don't spec into shadow weaving.

Yes. You will have big problems and will likely be unable to find a decent guild.

If you WANT to play priest then just play priest. Have fun with it.

This surely depends on what he wants to do on max level. For a ton of players raiding is the endgame and if that is his cup of tea then telling him to follow his heart and play shadow is setting him up for likely misery.

Nobody takes shadow priests to raid until the debuff limit gets increased to 16.

And even then, only ONE shadow priest per raid, to debuff the boss with shadow vulnerability. And you won't get damage gear unless nobody needs it, because you're only there to keep the boss debuffed, and help dispel, not to deal damage.

In PvP however, Spriests melt face. Esepcially UD with Devouring Plague.

Spot on. As far as swapping from healing to dps for bgs, thats expensive man. 50 vanilla cap, thats a few hundred a week.

And even at that point the guild might well prefer a hybrid x/y/20 priest.

Yeah, I suppose there really is no need to go 31 shadow if you're only there to debuff Shadow Weaving.

Perhaps something like this or maybe even this to have Power Infusion for your highest caster DPS.
