Mouseover healing

Mouseover healing

by Melikecookies » Thu Mar 19, 2015 1:32 pm

Hello,

I can't seem to find addon section in the forums and since i rolled priest i decided to post here.
What are the best addons for mouseover healing in vanilla?
I downloaded Grid and Classic Mouseover.Disabled X-perl(just in case, because it's buggy anyway) /Blizzard Self Cast and tried the following example macro with mouse on my own player frame(Not in party if it made any difference, which i doubt)

/cmcast Lesser Heal (Rank 1)

It had no effect whatsoever.
If you can tell what am i doing wrong or mention some better alternative for mouseover healing+addons it would be appreciated. Please?

Most people I know use Clique, and it works with almost all unitframes.

It shows a tab in your spell book, and then you just click on spells in your spell book with the combination you want to use with clique open. That's it, that click combination can now be used on unitframes to use that spell.
You can also create more specific macros, use different conditions etc. (out of combat, target is dead and so on)

(example: I click on "Flash Heal (rank 2)" With my Middle mouse button with clique open in my spell book, I can now click on any unitframes with my middle mouse button to cast Flash Heal (rank 2) on that target).

Classic mouseover is not the same thing as clique. It just let's you target spells by having the mouse hovering over the target. You still use the keyboard to cast the spell, you just don't have to click after to cast it.

Clique sounds great and everything, but I have 2 buttons on my mouse so it's not terribly useful to me.

Well i tried clique, but honestly i find it crap.
I just want a way to heal my desired target with my mouse cursor because it offers me simple and effective way to do it without too much fuss.
Thanks for the responses,though.

Sorry, I misunderstood the question then.
I have no experience in healing addons that don't involve clicking the frames.

I use SmartHeal.

It has an inbuilt click-to-heal feature where you can configure LMB/MMB/RMB with alt/ctrl to cast a variety of spells. It works with shaman, priest and druid at least, and I don't see why it wouldn't work with a paladin. It automatically downranks spells based on the amount of HP that character has lost, though you can override that and force it to cast max rank - even more neatly for priests, it lumps lesser heal/heal/greater heal together, choosing the one that is the best choice for that situation. If you don't have enough mana to cast the bigger healing spells, it'll cast a cheaper spell.

Unfortunately it does not work with Luna Frames and, while I haven't tried personally, this leads me to believe that it would not work with any other unit frames addon. Neither does this functionality work with Blizzard raid frames, so for the moment it's only useful for self and party healing.

Well, Smart Heal sounds like the type of addon that does too little (not fit for raid healing) and too much (only a ...bad? healer can use an addon that makes choices for him) so i guess i'll search for some other way.
Still i'm VERY suprised i am the only one so far really concerned for lack of mouseover healing. Can you really do fine by manually selecting people in vanilla raids? It's just inefficient and doing so for 39 other people...i lack the imagination to see how a healer can manage it.

(only a ...bad? healer can use an addon that makes choices for him)

I fail to see the difference between these two scenarios:

(1) Tank gets hit for 500
(2) I decide to heal him with Heal Rank 3 for ~600
(3) I cast Heal Rank 3 on him

OR

(1) Tank gets hit for 500
(2) I click-heal him
(3) SmartHeal decides to heal him with Heal Rank 3 for ~ 600

The difference being that I don't need to have a keybinding for every healing spell & rank, nor do I have to memorize their effective values combined with my +heal at that moment to maximize my mana efficiency.

And yes, before you counter-argue with "BUT ACTIVE HEALING VS REACTIVE HEALING", I already pointed out that it's entirely possible to force the addon to cast the max rank available. I honestly cannot see a situation where it would benefit the group / raid that I pre-cast Greater Heal rank 1 over Greater Heal rank 2. If you're pre-casting, you're already preparing for the worst case (tank getting crit) so you're not worrying about overhealing.

I'm sorry if I sound defensive but this shitting on a useful addon, that I would wager makes me do less overhealing and thus waste less mana and being a faster healer than people relying on their memory and dozen keybinds.

In any case, the point is kinda moot since it's not functioning with raid frames.

As for your comment about other players, it is entirely possible to heal raid-wide while selecting your target each time through raid frames. That's how I did my healing in vanilla and tbc raids.

1) Move mouse to target
2) Press button on keyboard with left hand
3) Press mouse button with right hand

The 3rd step really isn't a huge time consumer.

As long as you can use your left hand and right hand at the same time, its' a pretty small difference. If you want to save the time that's great (I plan to use classic mouse over to eliminate the 3rd step myself) but you should also look at addons that activate abilities on key-down instead of key-up and make sure you use an addon that condenses the raid frames as much as possible (like grid) as it reduces travel time.

Edit: I've used classic mouseover on other servers and had no problem, maybe it's the version you are using? I'll try it when I get home from work.

I've dabbled with all the mentioned addons and i find teh combo of GridEnhanced and classic mouseovers to be the best imo. You make simple /cmcast <spell name> macros and it works flawlessly for healing/dispelling. i wish Grid had a better out of range system with more custom options and an actual incoming heal preview on the frame but...It's doable. I can easily monitor all cleansable debuffs, PWS/weakened soul and renews w/ the setup/
